Davie always has come across as a very likeable and classy guy and he was smart enough to hire Greg Mattison away from Michigan.  I think he will do well at UNM maybe not great but certainly better than what they have been there.

Brian Urlacher wasn't bad either.  They produce several average players a year and a great one every few years.  New Mexico and West Texas are damn near the same so if he can keep players at home and grab a few from Texas and a few from Arizona he should be able to make them an average Mid Major.

I live in the Albuquerque area and think Davie is a decent hire.  His ties to the state of Texas, where there are so many 3 and 4 star types, should really help with recruiting.

Like somone else mentioned, New Mexico produces a handful of 3 or 4 stars each year.  Last year, a top 100 player nationally from the state committed to Notre Dame.  Quickly looking at the 2012 class in NM, there's a 3 star OL that has SEC offers (interestingly, he's from Switzlerland and would be the first Swiss person to play D-1 football).

Nothing but upside in this hire (considering the state of the program though, any coach would offer optimism).
