OT: New Blackberry Torch
New touch screen Blackberry with slide out keyboard announced today by Rim and At&t. Looks pretty sweet and i'm glad Rim came out with a new device to compete with Apple and Google.
Here is a link to the at & t site.

Had to carry the Torch for BlackBerry. God knows I've given up on them.
/Rimshot.

RIMshot?
Really though, since my job refuses to support the iPhone or Droid devices, a Blackberry that actually is kinda sorta in the ballpark of those devices would be nice. And the slider QWERTY keyboard is a plus. I'll probably end up getting one.

I also have given up on BB. I have a Curve and I absolutely loathe it.

Only AT&T or what?

6.0 is the same as 5.0 but with stronger open gl support. It still has the same crappy java platform as 5.0.

Trust me, the underlying OS is exactly the same, that is to say java, they just have a much better browser (webkit) and some new native applications.
You will still see performance issues. It will still be a clunky/outdated UI, it still won't have the application support other platforms have, it still lags in it's ability to play/support most types of media, etc., etc.
Think Storm3, not Blackberry 3.0.......

It will be interesting to check out but I have moved to the Moto Droid and am very happy. I had a BB before but since moving to the Droid, I can't imagine going back unless something really changes. With Android 2.2, the Droid is more work-friendly and all of the other features really blow away my OLD BB. Good move for RIM though to slow the defection.

BlackBerry users running out of loyalty: 50 percent plan to defect to iPhone or Android
"Perhaps more interesting than the ever present market share tug-of-war (Nielsen pegs Google, RIM, and Apple at 27 percent, 33 percent, and 23 percent in sales to new smartphone subscribers, respectively) a note on brand loyalty turns out ugly for BlackBerry: while 89 percent of iPhone owners plan on getting another iPhone, and 71 percent of Android buyers plan to re-up, only 42 percent of BlackBerry owners plan to stick around. The defectors are pretty evenly split, with 29 percent planning to go iPhone, and 21 percent to go Android. That compares to 2 and 3 percent in the iPhone and Android camps planning a move to BlackBerry. "
but my expirence with blackberry over the last few years has been rather positive imo ...
while i am not a super geek, so i may not push its limits, i have found it quite useful in college, not to mention i really do love bbm, there is just something about watching each message to see if they get read or not ...
so anyway, a week ago, against all the anti-blackberry sentiment, i went out and reupped to a blackberry bold, so far i really like it and have had no problems with it other than a shorter than perfect battery life (though i am on vacation so that may not even be an issue)
(note: on the other hand i dont even have an ipod so clearly i am a loser when it comes to techy thins)
When all you've had in life is vanilla ice cream, you don't know how good all the other flavors can be.
Had the Storm for a month, worst smartphone I have ever used. I will never have another BlackBerry
run away from this phone. It will still be the same POS OS just with open gl support. It is basically a storm with a slide out keyboard. I am running towards Droid when my new every 2 is up and I can trade in my crappy storm2. I for one won't cry a tear if RIM ever goes under.
