I'm one of those carmudgeons that was dragged to each Harry Potter movie, and regretted it every time (not a fan of turning imaginative books into movies). Star Wars, of course!

For very different reasons. However, I'm giving the nod to Harry Potter, and I'll explain why.

In the Star Wars trilogy 4,5, and 6, the acting was fantastic even if the special effects hadn't caught up as much. In 1,2, and 3, the acting was terrible. Just terrible. The storyline wasn't as good, the concepts weren't impressive, and even though the special effects made things cool, it just didn't make the story worth it. In Harry Potter, both the story and the acting got better over time.

I also say Harry Potter because Star Wars was NOT originally a book, and I prefer books. The better question(s) would be LOTR v Harry Potter and Star Wars v Star Trek.

However - if it came to a fistfight, I'd say Star Wars, because Yoda. Duh.

It's hard for me to forgive the Harry Potter movies for completely botching the movie of my favorite book in the series (Azkaban). Granted, they got a new director later on and he did a solid job with the last few movies. Both series are great in their own ways though. If we're talking movies, I have to give the nod to SW, in spite of the prequel trilogy, because Episodes IV, V, and VI are better than any of the HP movies.

In terms of "who would kill who", I will say SW because there's more depth to the Force than there is wizardry IMO.

But I'm glad I don't have to choose between the two in real life because they're both great and I can't wait to introduce them to my children.
