OT-Need help with Utorrent

Submitted by TIMMMAAY on
So I've never actually used Utorrent, but I've had it installed for a while. I'm trying to watch a History Channel special I missed over the weekend. I'm not sure how to use it though. Can anyone sort of walk me through it? Any help would really be appreciated.

1. Download the torrent file from an internet database. 2. As soon as you open the downloaded torrent file, it should automatically open utorrent. 3. Choose the necessary files from the list, click OK, and then it will begin downloading them. 4. Right-click on the file while it is downloading, and adjust the download priority to "High", and also raise the maximum download speed. You might also want to lower the upload speed. 5. Once the files are complete, right-click on the file and choose the "Remove Torrent" option(Not the Remove Torrent+Data option). It's a fairly easy program to use once you get the hang of it. You might also want to download the VLC media player, as this is the only one I have found that will play all torrent files.

For #5 you are telling him to remove the torrent as soon as it completes. That totally defeats how torrents operate. You should seed (share) the file with others or the whole torrent process breaks down. I let mine share either overnight or until the shared ratio is 100%.

VLC plays any type of video file that you will come across. I highly recommend it over any other video player. Also, some torrents will come as a whole pile of .zip or .rar files. If you have a program like WinRAR it just takes a few seconds to unzip the archive into the file you are looking for.

No but I like Bit Lord myself. That is the one that I usually use. Does anyone have a suggestion for the best site to get the torrents from? I like Pirate Bay and Isohunt but sometimes the quality of some of the files are not where you want it.

movies...I have a D Link Media player that plays most of the files out there but I seem to get the most quality from .avi files. I usually just get them from a seeder named Axxo and they are pretty good quality but those are usually only new releases. When I think of something that I want that isn't all that mainstream or new I run into quality issues or unbareably slow download times.

Which one do you have? I have the DSM-320 and there's a lot of formats it doesn't like. I've taken to just converting to dvd-format mpg's and things work just fine. Also, AxxO has retired so anything you see with his name on it now is a fake. I used to use mininova.com but they're gone. Use isohunt now and torrentzap, which is new. For Michigan files there is Mgovideo.com. I used to upload stuff there, but I lost the ability to capture from Satellite.

You might also need to download Daemon Tools if the file downloaded is an .iso file. DVD's will often be in a format such as that. It's essentially a virtual disc and Daemon Tools creates virtual drives that will play the .iso file like a normal DVD-Rom drive would play a DVD. If that makes sense, I tried to make it simple.

Those links on tracker sites that say "Direct Download" don't have the file. Seriously they don't. They're just there to get you to subscribe (usually pay) to a download site that may, MAY have what you want. Maybe.

Do yourself a favor and go to youtube and search "How to make uTorrent faster". It takes about 10 min and its worth it. Make sure that you use a tutorial for the proper version of uTorrent since features change from version to version, obviously. Also, for TV torrents none beats eztv.it. For all else you should find a buddy who is a member of a private site like demonoid.com and have him send you an invite. They usually have the best selection of high quality torrents. Otherwise use thepiratebay.org. It's the largest public site. Finally, remember to seed for your fellow .torrent users and don't just delete your file when its done, please.
