OT: Need help finding a hotel near or somewhat close to the stadium

Submitted by The Baughz on

I am coming in from PA to go to the Mich/ND game. Since it is confirmed that Gameday will be in Ann Arbor, I am now planning on coming in on Friday night. I stayed at Victory Inn 2 years ago, the one on Washtenaw Ave. It is a pretty cheap hotel, which I am looking for, and also was a great location. I just called them and they said they only have rooms available for the 9th. I wasnt 100% sure I was going to this game until last week, and now with gameday being there, I would need a hotel for 2 nights. So that is why I did not get reservations yet. Ya, I know the game is only a month away. Basically, Im asking you guys if I am screwed or are there any other cheap(er) hotels near that area. Any information would be helpful and feel free to ridicule me for waiting way too late.

We stayed in the Residence Inn a few years back and it was fine.  Right off I-94 across from Briarwood.

Although, if you can find a Holiday Inn Express, maybe they'll let you coach the kickers or something!

I just called them. They are completly booked. The lady kind of laughed at me when I asked her if they had rooms available for the 9th and 10th of Sept. lol. I kind of expected that. Thanks though.

I actually have a friend who did this.

He was driving around the country for a month, and didn't have anywhere to stay in some town in Mississippi. Instead of sleeping in his car, he asked a stripper in some podunk town if he could crash on her couch, and she agreed. Said it was the nastiest apartment he's ever been in, but it was good enough for 3-4 hours of sleep.

Call the Library Bed & Breakfast on Mary St (no website, google the phone number). Small place right on Mary St by the IM Bldg. Innkeeper's a great lady. Not terribly big or fancy, but rates are reasonable (< $100/nite), includes breakfast, and she give you a key to the inn part of the house so you can go out drinking and not have to worry about being locked out. Since there's no website, she relies a lot on return business & word of mouth.

Second option is to go for one of the B&B's on teh west side past main St. Backpackers B&B is the one I remember first off. Go to bbonline.com and search in Ann Arbor.

My friend stayed at the Lamp Post Inn on Washtenaw once.  It's closer to the stadium:

Also, there's the Clarion Inn at Jackson Rd. and I-94, so it's the other direction.  But, it's nice and under new management supposedly.

There's also an inexpensive hotel south of I-94 on State St. in the direction of the airport, but I can't remember which one it is.

Close to the hotel you tried is a Days Inn on Carpenter Road:  www.daysinn.com/annarbor

Hope this helps.

Good luck dude.  I booked my reservations at the Hampton on Victory Lane September 11, 2010 at noon.  I paid something like $250 (non-refundable I might add) for a queen double on the FIRST day their computers could take a reservation.  And the booking department said they were already over 75% filled and expected to sell out by the end of the day.

And that was almost 10 months ago.

I am also coming from PA for this game. And I had a thread a few weeks ago about this same thing, and I had no luck with a hotel in AA since every single place was booked. So we had to settle for a Days Inn in Canton. Good luck my man.

the game starts at 8, but really won't kickoff till 815, will take 4 hours, gets you to 1215, some celebratory dancing, soicalizing etc in the stadium after, hear the band play the full set, watch nd's band too, make your way out to the golf course, have some pops. you won't get to your car until 2 or 3. you might as well just sleep in your car, since your parking spot will cost as much as a room and you will only be there for a few hours. perhaps if you park at someone's house you can negotiate a shower in the morning for a few bucks extra.

it might not be the best, but driving from ann arbor to canton at 3 am to stay in a hotel for a few hours sounds even worse.

Stay in Windsor. Caesar's is way nicer than most hotels and you'll have tons of fun. It's only about 40 minutes to the stadium, just leave early sunday morning to avoid border traffic.

If you can't find a hotel in or near Ann Arbor, then your next best bet might be the I-275 corridor, as I suspect there are still rooms in a belt from Novi to Romulus. Try Belleville too if you want to be at least along I-94.

We're staying here again this year, $109/night for a 2-bedroom suite with full kitchen.  Very quiet, Mall & good food options aplenty + Meijer/Kroger/Target for tailgate supplies.  It's not in AA - but there is not a room left in Washtenaw County anywhere for this weekend.

GO BLUE!
