OT: ND TE Alize Jones academically ineligible this year

Submitted by FabFiver5 on

Per both Brian Kelly's and Jones' Twitter accounts, Alize Jones is academically ineligible for this season. Says he plans to stay in school, work harder and come back next season.

Not a huge deal, but as their leading returning receiver in YPC, could affect their offense a little. Let's hope all of our guys have hit the books this summer to avoid something like this.

Edit:  Didn't realize he was a sophomore, thought he was a freshman, still will have a lot of ineligible freshmen this year.

I think this may be a common theme this year as academic requirements to play as a freshman were increased by the NCAA.  So players on the boarder of qualifying will be forced to redshirt.

I respect that he attempted to do the work personally and ND didn't push him into a bunch of 1 credit or fake classes, unlike so many football players. Hopefully our fans don't stoop to ridicule. I had non athlete friends at UM who struggled as well, including a roommate who flunked out of engineering. Very common to fall apart academically at that age, as issues related to adjustment, mental health, and attention deficit set in
