what the fuck is tru tv...I don't have it. anyway, will the games be watchable online during the round of 64
OT - NCAA Round 1 and NIT Open Thread
All of the games, along with the first four, are available online at cbssports.com. I watched a little of the first game earlier.
unless you live overseas (like I do), in which case you are screwed.
Channel 183 on FIOS in Fairfax, VA.
I only watch it this time of year
The NIT games are great. St Johns at the buzzer and Robert Morris beating UK.
I'll edit the thread to capture the NIT as well.
Tru TV is sandwiched between the Game Show Network and the Crime Investigation Channel in my cable package. I can honestly say I didn't know these channels existed.
Not a fan of Impractical jokers I am guessing?
Or Hardcore Pawn..or Storage Wars
Watching the NIT instead.
True story: Kentucky is AT Robert Morris and is currently down 8 with 12 to go.
He's soft. Getting his rest for all of the games on Thurs & Fri.
Back in my day (oh, wait, there were only three channels).
Even if Kentucky escapes, they look awful without Noel. Hell, they looked average with Noel.
BUT THEIR THE DEFENDING CHAMPS! THEY HAVE TO BE IN THE FIELD OF 64
I'm loving this Robert Morris/Kentucky game. The crowd is so hyped and what a feeling it would be for a small school like that to take out the defending champs on their floor even if it is the NIT.
Crowd is going to go fucking crazy if the pull this off
I've never seen just a soft team from Coach Cal. Say what you want about him but he always has tough teams with great point guards. Coach Cal can coach but these guys have no confidence at all. Freshman man.
Tuned in 6 minutes ago and all their talking about is Kentucky, how bout sum love for Bob Morris
Hey NCAA: Dump the First Four.
If I want to go watch two medicore mid majors play, I'll go watch the CIT on whatever public access channel it's aired on at 3am.
Sorry, I don't think a 15-20 team should be allowed into the tournament even if they won their conference tournament. It's rewarding mediocrity, or in Liberty's case, just plain bad.
I don't have a problem with them getting in. But let them play Louisville or Indiana and get beat by 60, just like they did 15-20 years ago.
Yikes, here come the cats. That's gotta be a flagrant II on Robert Morris.
That escalated quickly...
I know better than to tune in, because as soon as I do, Robert Morris is certain to crap the bed.
Still rooting for RoMo to dump the Cats
It looked to me like he hit the ball first and then destroyed him on the follow-though
Hard foul on the arm where you get a lot of the ball isn't supposed to be a 2.
That's simply out of bounds off the offensive player.
Very aggressive game between St. Mary's and Middle Tennessee already.
Someone got laid out by a pick in the opening possession and another player just got rocked bringing down a rebound.
I like the winner of this game taking Memphis to the wire.
So why is Kentucky- a one seed- playing at eight seed RM?
Second and third round games being held in Lexington
I believe there are round 2 and 3 games happening in Lexington, therefore it was unavailable for NIT
NCAA tourney games at Rupp Arena later this week IIRC.
Conflict at Rupp Arena that couldn't be changed because of the quick turnaround. NIT rules are that you go to the other team's arena in that case, which has made for quite the entertaining game here.
Have you guys heard? The low guy wins.
Interesting from Robert Morris here - going to the corner to set up an inbounds play? Hmmmm...
Annexation of Puerto Rico?
Dang thought RM had that and 1.
nice inbound play
Yeah, I liked it, despite the poor in-bound guarding.
Somebody on that staff did good film work the last couple of days, got some good stuff on how UK defends out of bounds on the baseline.
I was thinking it was either that, or:
They thought Kentucky would simply rely on their athleticism and chase the double screen around, not respecting the athleticism of RM, which appeared to happen.
Or, maybe that was a shooter that they had previously done the same screen out to the corner, causing the chase, but instead turned back and dove down.
So much goes into those OOB plays and they can be defended in so many ways. It's very rare when one works as well as that did (and they needed the poor inbound guarding on top of it). I really would love to get a more in depth explanation as to why/how they knew that play would work.
was one of the things they saw on film. That play has no chance if he's correctly positioned; I think they knew he wouldn't be.
got open lay up
Could be an epic court rush here.
*no jinx knock on wood
Making free throws at the end of the game = win...sec blows. Great game
Way to go, Robert Morris!!!
Screw the SEC!!!
Nice job Robert Morris!!
Flood the court in the NIT? I love college hoops!
Also jimmy dykes is such a SEC homer with his crying hold on at the end of the game.
I think he was literally saying "hold on" becuase the students were running into them. You could hear the microphones hitting something and then they didn't say anything for a good chunk of time.
Ohh wow, i didn't even think of that possibility! That makes it even better. I was just so used to Jimmy dykes defending Arkansas in every way possible, so i assumed he would do the same for the rest of the SEC. I like your answer better though.
Where is theESSSSSEEECCC chant?
Would have been AWESOME if the home crowd chanted that!!!
Love when underdog wins in post season (except S.D.St)
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. S-E-C! S-E-C! S-E- oh wait.
How bout them mid-majors?
How many major violations does Calipari commit on the way to the locker room.
Where is the SEC speed??
The SEC really got screwed this year with no getting more bids and more respect!!! Cry baby bitches...
First ever first round NIT court storming? Hahaha
N E C...N E C...N E C
" Ok guys, tough season but at least now you have some extra time to hit the books."
hit the books pack your bags for the D-league.
John "Saban" Calipari
After that, there may not be a university to come back to. That yahoo fanbase might burn the whole campus to the ground.
I can't wait to talk to my UK relatives. Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!
Is the entire NIT played on one team's court or do they have a set location for the finals?
for final 4,at least thats how it used to be,Madison Square Garden
tape delayed to make some appear simultaneous
Sorry, couldn't resist
N'Eastern take down Bama now
since several players were caught studying back in the 90s
In the words of Willy Wonka: "You get NOTHING! You LOSE! GOOD DAY, sir!"
Now THAT'S how to rush the court. Nicely done, Bob Morris.
but that's still beautiful.
IME no NIT-related qualifier needed. Robert Morris is allowed to rush the court upon beating Kentucky under any circumstance ever.
Morris had the home court advantage for that game as well? Not sure how NIT handles that and seeding, but that is about as low as possible it seems to not have home court for first round NIT game
There was a conflict with Rupp Arena so the game was moved to Robert Morris.
but Rupp Arena host the first two rounds of NCAA tourney and couldn't accomodate Kentucky for the NIT game so per NIT rule, they have to travel to Robert Morris for an NIT game.
UK gets to watch Louisville at Rupp later this week advance to the Sweet 16. Ouch.
Wonder if Robert Morris fans started chanting NEC! NEC! NEC!
Kind of off topic, but is there going to be a "guess the score, win free stuff" thread for the upcoming tournament game?
Kentucky basketball or Kareem Abdul Jabbar joining the D list stars diving on Splash?
Wonder what Kentucky's freshman will do regarding the draft. They clearly arent ready for the League, but that hasnt stopped guys before them. Im assuming Calipari has signed another full class for next year, what does he do if some of these guys decide to stay? Or will he 'push' them out?
Maybe he will "encourage" some players to transfer? He was pretty brutal in his post game comments and basically said the team was "hijacked" this year by players who did not buy into the system. Some of that has to fall on the coaching staff. You cannot expect to bring in a whole class of one-and-dones every year and just keep winning titles.
UK has 5 McDonalds All Americans. Those frosh could be forced into a choice between late 2nd round or off the bench next year.
This is exactly what you will get. Not only will you have no junior or senior leadership, you will also have kids with no interest whatsoever in the educational institution or in the academic side of things. I'd bet a big box of money that if you could take a peek at the actual academic performance of one-and-done kids you'd find a pretty general lack of achievement in the classroom, regardless whether it's basketball or hockey or whatever.
