OT: NCAA 12 First Impressions

So far I'm very dissapointed. I've played a good amount since I got it, and I am very dissapointed in it. This new tackling system they were so proud of is very choppy to me, more like Madden's system which I hate. The amount of dropped passes has increased a ton as well. I liked '11 much better by first impression.

Practice makes perfect. Unless you're the Buckeyes. Then you have to cheat.

When playing on heisman difficulty, do they still have the linebackers do those ninja leaps where they jump 6 feet in the air to knock down a pass? That pissed me off the most.

I've been happy if your having drop balls turn catching to conservative and user catch them. Great indepth mode and creating a play book is awesome for me. They paid a lot of attention to detail and I love it. I just need hoke to get fired in that game so my offensive coordinator from Toledo can take his dream job as the head coach of the maize and blue lol /s

I've been really happy with it so far...with 2 notable exceptions.

1) Terrelle Pryor is still on the Buckeyes.  I know this will be rectified with updated rosters, but I found myself wanting to yell "FREE TATS!!!" at the TV while I was playing the Buckeyes.

2) I didn't like that Denard didn't have dreads. Little qualm, I know...but c'mon...how hard was that one to do?

What I really like is the running game vs. last year's edition. I actually feel like there's a reason to hand the ball off and get the opposing D to start inching in to stop it and bang 'em with some quick passes to the TE for a quick 10-15 yard gain. If they drop deep; however, Denard is going to make 'em pay with a 20 yard scamper. He does get hurt a lot in the game though....which, while true to last season, sucks - seeing as I have it on good authority that he's made of pure adamantium this season.

Truth be told, I like it a good bit better than last years, but it's very evolutionary - with little that is a huge leap forward from previous editions.

This game is really good I think.  My main complaint is it seems too easy to throw the ball deep.  Even on Heisman, if you just call four verticals everytime there is almost always someone open.  The safeties don't turn and run when someone is going deep nearly fast enough.

In the past couple games, if you call 4 verts every 3 plays, almost everytime at least once a guy will be open. I try not to do that and mix up my play calling to make it more fun, but if I ever need to, I just do that. For example, I modified my schedule as Michigan to play at Alabama in Week 3. I was down 6-3 with 30 second sleft on Heisman, ball on my own 32, no TOs, so I call 4 verts, and I score on a 68 yard pass to Vincent Smith. They need to change that,

Is that better this year?  The thing I didn't like about '11 was that most recruits were just bad players (3 stars were basically maxing out at 80).   So after 3-4 seasons, you had an incredible disparity between the 5 star recruits and the 3 stars.  Most teams became all B-/C+ after 4 years.

Have they improved that at all?

I still saw recruiting battles with Bama, Texas, OSU, USC. Maybe the 2nd tier teams have gotten suckier, but they were still recruiting well.

Basically feels like NCAA 11 with minor tweaks. The tackling system is a little better, zone defense makes passing a little tougher, and shotgun running is more realistic.

Also, the quarterback doesn't have that stupid looking stance when he's in the shotun anymore, which makes me extremely happy. (I know, pathetic)

I really like the game too. My biggest problem has been my defensive linemen jumping offsides whenever my opponent does a hard count. I can have the gameplan for the D-line on conservative, and they will still jump.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

It is really strange.

It seems like they amp up the difficulty unfairly for some games.  Playing as SDSU, I will be able to put 500 yards on Wyoming, but against Colorado State, they would play a three man front and the nose tackle would split the double team on nearly half of my runs.  Running can be so difficult in some games that I just completely avoid it as 75% of them are drive killing losses, and the other 25% go for 2-4 yards.

Another problem I have is that they seemed to over do it on the defensive backs this time around.  Receivers won't even make an attempt for a ball that is slightly over their head (I know I should user catch), but I have two or three interceptions a game (against the odd team it wants me to lose to) where my receiver got a step on the safety, yet he makes up the ground and makes a leaping Willie Mays catch for the interception.  I was throwing about 5-6 interceptions a game at first.  I have cut out the really bad ones, but I am still getting those few where the defensive back goes Dean Cain on me.

And the screen play is completely busted.

They fixed a few of the major problems, and it feels like an improvement, but it really feels like you have no chance to beat an equal team on the road or a higher ranked team.

I'm starting out low as an OC at Western Kentucky... My QB and HB have never made it out of the first quarter without an injury through 5 games. I think I will run out of QBs. Prepare to either turn injuries off or build your team to have at least 6 QBs. At least with Michigan as a worst case scenario you can go to Gallon at QB. Western has nothing.

No, but you can mess with the Head Coach's prestige and such now. So you can make him an a-hole and a fool, but you unfortunately can't hurt the school.

Perhaps you could demote TSIO to the Sunbelt...

I would wait for the OS community rosters to be completed, since they have corrections such as players being removed from teams(I am looking at your T.Pryor) and correct depth charts. I read in post there that the community ones are about 90% done, which means it will only be a couple of days before they are completed. They are better than just the named ones.

I'm in my second season as UM. I did custom conferences to add ND and Mizzou to the B1G. Turning injuries off would be a good idea, as Denard gets injured way too often. I have to use Bellomy a ton because I redshirted Gardner.

Overall, I'd say it's a good game (I made the jump from 10 though). The animations are much better as far as running, catching, and tackling go. Recruiting is more difficult but once you put together a really good season or two it becomes easier. My first season I only signed like 16 recruits and none of them were five stars, mid-season I have 3 committed already. All WR's though haha

I added some option plays out of I-form and shotgun sets, and I can't get anywhere with Denard. Its frustrating. Also its hard having any impact on defense. On old versions you could get a decent LB and rack up 10 tackles and a pick or sack here and there each game. Now you just get blocked or pushed enough to miss tackle opportunities. I can use Demens all game and get maybe 4 solo user tackles, and nothing close to an int or pbu.
