OT: NBA Finals Game 4 Open Thread

Submitted by taistreetsmyhero on

Might as well start this. I've enjoyed the last few game threads. Seems to be several people on here following this great series.

Don't think it's a bold statement to say that the winner of this game likely takes the series.

I hate all OH teams but I've lived outside of AA and grew up die hard M. But there are still plenty of M fans in Ohio so I can see how there are lots of M fans that are also Cavs fans. Not to mention how many fans will root any team Lebron is on. Basketball has lots of fans that follow their favorite big time player no matter who he plays for.

Man. If it were somehow possible for the Warriors to land Frank Kaminsky, I feel like he'd be a fantastic addition to that team.

Having a 7' big man that can post-up, stretch the floor, and provide another major threat from 3-point range alongside Curry and Thompson would be wild.

All the headscratchers in this game, in whichever direction, were Crawford's whistles. I think Van Gundy hit the nail on the head when he called him an "old time official." He's from an era before replay reviews and getting the call right--he just calls it on feel and will make something up if he needs to. Lebron's obviously fouled and he doesn't want to call it...but then the ball rolls out of bounds. He can't give the ball to the other team, that wouldn't be right because it was an obvious foul. And he can't go back and call the foul, so he invents a phantom touch and gives the ball to Cleveland.

30 or 40 years ago that's just the way it was done. Now all it does is piss off both teams and both fanbases.

Now that I think of it I guess I'm from his era too...but I'm not sorry to see it pass.

Cavs gotta regroup big time. If JR or Shump doesn't show up next game, they're done for.

One of those guys along with Mozgov, Delly and Lebron are gonna have to carry the offense. Thompson will always be there for put backs.

J R Smith's +/-'s:

  • Game 1: -8 on 34 minutes
  • Game 2: -13 on 38 minutes
  • Game 3: 0 on 32 minutes
  • Game 4: -27 on 28 minutes

They're -48 when he's on the court, +26 when he's on the bench.

He's by far the worst defender of the seven they have left and there's no place to hide him in this series, especially when GS has gone small. At best he's hitting his shots and they tread water; at worst, like tonight, he's missing everything and GS goes on a run every time he's on the floor.

Enjoying the hell out of the narrative in this year's Finals. But man, most of the basketball being playing is unbearable. Cleveland really has no choice but to go ISO with LBJ since Irving and Love are out (and you can see how terrible they are when Lebron's on the bench). But the Warriors are playing some pretty bad basketball at times too. I hope this doesn't go 7 games because it's just good basketball.
