OT NBA Draft Open Thread
Ben Simmons was taken first overall to Philadelphia. Our boy Jalen Rose is on the expert panel, and compared him to Grant Hill.
Brandon Ingram second to Lakers. No surprises yet.

Yeah, maybe not a shining example for Chad Ford on that one.

It might just be me but pound for pound this might be one of the more underwhelming drafts in a while. I think we - the Pistons - are 18th, which doesn't give me a lot of warm fuzzies about who will be available.
Question for the Pistons fans - who would you want at that position in this draft ideally? I realize this is not an ideal draft or pick, but I am curious where people sit on this.

I'd want to package Jodie Meek's contract, Aaron Baynes, and #18 for a veteran PG or PF. I can't make myself excited about who's projected to be available around our pick.

Jaylen Brown, who Beilein was hard after a short while ago, just went third to Boston. Unexpected.

I must not have caught any of those mocks, then.
I had seen him in the 6-9 range.

being 113th in the country the year before. I think he helped.

All Michigan-related, of course.
Only if you dislike baseball.
Too late in the season to be fresh and new and too early in the season to be very compelling and exciting. All-star game zzz......
Actually truth be told I have to post a thread on the parade. I was there and it was beyond nuts.
Wow... The Twolves are gonna dominate in the future. Kris Dunn is an amazing player.
Looks like Rubio is on the move.
The Wolves taking Kris Dunn makes me think that Rubio is expendable. I'd go all in for him, making the Pistons' sixth man be a heady, defensive, playmaker that would allow Reggie Jackson to play off the ball in spurts.
Rubio isn't known for being a defender. Actually he is known for being a subpar defender.
I'm going to have to strongly, strongly disagree with you. His achilles heel is his jumpshooting, and it's glaring, but his physical tools and basketball IQ make his presence felt on both sides of the court.
http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/sort/DRPM/position/1 He's second in real defensive plus minus.
He's fifth in defensive rebound rate. http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/statistics/_/position/pg/sort/…
He's second in total steals and steals per game, and first in steal percentage/rate. http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/player/_/stat/steals/sort/avgSteals/y…
He is 6'4" with a long wingspan, and it shows in team defense, as the Wolves were fourth in defensive efficiency. http://espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/teamstats/_/sort/defensiveEff/order/tr…
If Rubio is 12th in the NBA in value added, with a far lower usage rating than anybody above him, despite his abysmal shooting, is it not safe to assume that he's making a difference defensively? http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/statistics/_/position/pg/sort/…
But you tell me. How is he subpar?

Howard Eisley is next.
Pretty sure Stan Van Gundy said that whoever the Pistons draft won't be an immediate contributor, but if they provide solid minutes over the length of their rookie contract it's a win in his book. Pretty much he's drafting best player available (although they do need a backup PG and a stretch PF). I almost feel like they'll need to deal for a veteran backup PG instead of relying on a rookie to handle that duty.
That avatar...is that a young Bill Bonds? (and then I saw your footnote thing. Bill Bonds indeed!
It's Bill Bonds from the mid-1980s at the end of his commentary on the Michigan-Ohio State game. It's worth watching for the twist ending after his rant.
