OT: NBA All Star game open thread
Well this is a rather "different" way of introducing the players. And soon you will get to the NBA like it used to be back in the 70's and early 80's when defense was something not exactly shall we say....embraced.
Let the game begin.

Watched the intros and immediately thought, 'why am I watching this?' Needless to say I made the switch to Comedy Central and am currently watching South Park
February 16th, 2014 at 10:55 PM ^
Don't worry. The NBA is becoming so unpopular that you are not the only one.
February 16th, 2014 at 8:46 PM ^
The only reason I will watch some of the game is to see Durant and Bron go at each other. Go Durant!
February 16th, 2014 at 8:47 PM ^
I like the nba. I don't know why but I do. Ill probably watch until true detective starts.
February 17th, 2014 at 11:02 AM ^
Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway = the only reasons I'll follow the NBA even remotely.
February 17th, 2014 at 11:15 AM ^
Don't forget Jamal Crawford, putting up 18.6 ppg :-o
February 16th, 2014 at 8:48 PM ^
I am gutting it out waiting for the game to start. FWIW the National Anthem was damn pretty bad ass IMO. Gary Clark Jr doing it solo on the electric guitar
February 16th, 2014 at 8:57 PM ^
Two completely useless and unnecessary things I've noticed already at this game:
1. The referees
2. The 24 second shot clock
February 16th, 2014 at 9:09 PM ^
3. Coaches
February 16th, 2014 at 9:53 PM ^
Whoever else is on the court for the east if Carmelo has the ball
February 17th, 2014 at 7:03 AM ^
the game...
February 16th, 2014 at 9:05 PM ^
Wait, so defense has been embraced in the NBA outside of those decades?
February 16th, 2014 at 9:15 PM ^
"Defense" is relative. In college basketball, the best defense is forcing your opponent to shoot jump shots (because most college players are not good shooters). In the NBA, just about every player is a good shooter...the the best defense is stopping transition.

Loved all star weekend growing up. The parents and I would sit around the TV watching our favorite players. My fav jerseys were the 1992 ones when Magic won the MVP after sitting out the year due to HIV.
I still like it now but there is just to much extra crap. Like the pre game takes to long. They keep messing with the rules of every event. I am old school so just don't fuck with it!
February 16th, 2014 at 9:20 PM ^
Potty mouth!

This! All the extra crap is ruining it for me too. Just stick to the rookie game, slam dunk contest, three point shoot out and the all star game. They should make it mean something by giving the winning team's conference home field advantage like in MLB.

When this was such an exciting event in the late 80's and early to mid 90's. I honestly had no idea it was all-star weekend...
February 16th, 2014 at 9:25 PM ^
I hope all those guys got the marbles out they mouths before talking to the great Bill Russell
February 17th, 2014 at 11:29 AM ^
Morgan Freeman?
February 16th, 2014 at 9:33 PM ^
Those uniforms are beyond dumb.
February 16th, 2014 at 9:35 PM ^
so was I.
February 16th, 2014 at 9:37 PM ^
For reasons unknown Noah keeps playing defense when the East is on defense. Whoever he's guarding has got to be pissed at Hell with getting matched up with only dude not 100% conceeding the shot.
February 16th, 2014 at 9:40 PM ^
A lot of the comments on this thread are pretty funny, but none of them are making me regret not watching it.
February 16th, 2014 at 9:45 PM ^
Once again the comments on this thread proves that the NBA is a joke of a league. Yep watching the Olympics was the better choice.
February 16th, 2014 at 9:49 PM ^
If you have any questions why the East is dog doo compared to the West just look at the reserves for each team. The West is loaded with near MVP quality players and the East has, umm, not near MVP players.
The league has to find a way to fix the dumpster fire that is theEastern Conference.
February 17th, 2014 at 9:58 AM ^
are still the Pacers and the Heat. I expect either team to win it all even though they will cruise though EC with ease.
February 16th, 2014 at 10:10 PM ^
Yawn. Wake me when Stern has retired.
February 16th, 2014 at 10:39 PM ^
Alarm clock here...he retired a week or do ago, right before the Super Bowl
February 17th, 2014 at 1:22 AM ^
Wait is this serious?
Stern did retire.
February 16th, 2014 at 10:18 PM ^
It probably would not shock anyone at all to know that Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin are the most prolific scorers among both teams at halftime. Meanwhile, Kyrie Irving and Dwight Howard are leading the teams in rebounding.
Of note, the Eastern team is 6-21 from beyond the arc. From an offensive standpoint, that's rather been the difference.
February 16th, 2014 at 10:22 PM ^
I wished they played defense before the 4th quarter.
February 17th, 2014 at 7:04 AM ^
Playing d in the 4th? I must have missed it.
February 16th, 2014 at 10:31 PM ^
Lol. Ball out, Melo! Leading the team in points in the all-star game! For THREE! Lol. Anthony is the prototype all-star game player. All-time leader in 20-point games in a losing effort (Iverson a close second).
February 16th, 2014 at 10:32 PM ^
Went with Netflix and saw Donnie Darko for the first time. I think I made the right decision as I'm watching DD again.
February 16th, 2014 at 10:45 PM ^
And I find it kind of funny,
I find it kind of sad,
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I ever had.
February 16th, 2014 at 10:47 PM ^
Your mention of the name "Darko" in an NBA thread is far, far more painful to the ears than fingernails on a chalkboard could ever be. Especially to anyone who even ever-so-slightly followed the Pistons over the last several years.
February 16th, 2014 at 10:52 PM ^
Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion.
February 16th, 2014 at 10:54 PM ^
Donnie Darko is an awesome movie! A lot funnier than you'd expect.
February 16th, 2014 at 10:57 PM ^
You mean to tell me that the NBA All Star Game can go suck a fuck?
February 16th, 2014 at 11:50 PM ^
Detective instead.
February 17th, 2014 at 8:23 AM ^
Yup. And shit is getting real with that show. I like it much more than TWD right now
February 16th, 2014 at 10:59 PM ^
I'm flipping back and forth between this game and Air Force One. Mr President got to the plane and a flight attendant told him that Michigan beat Notre Dame which was a game he recorded. they showed some footage of the game but it looked a lot older than 97 (when the movie was released). Anyone know what I'm talking about?
February 16th, 2014 at 11:13 PM ^
Best part of the movie. Footage looked like early nineties.
February 16th, 2014 at 11:36 PM ^
The FA says the score was 14-13 Michigan with a fist pump! The President looks disappointed but was it because he was a ND fan or didn't want to know the score of the game? I will argue that the president is a Michigan fan because he tells his daughter to pay attention to the best part of the game. Go Blue
February 16th, 2014 at 11:58 PM ^
He didn't want to know the score. He wants Blue.
February 17th, 2014 at 2:52 AM ^
years ago---Harrison Ford plays the leads role as President TIMMMAAY something-or-other, right?
February 16th, 2014 at 11:22 PM ^
EAST Baby!
February 16th, 2014 at 11:30 PM ^
The new commish looks 70.
February 16th, 2014 at 11:44 PM ^
Cleveland's own Kyrie Irving brings home the MVP leading the East with 31 points and 14 assists in the highest scoring All-Star game in league history.
February 16th, 2014 at 11:53 PM ^
For as talented as kyrie is, he hasn't done anything to help improve the cavs despite some good pieces they've added.
