OT: Name of the Year 2015

Submitted by LBSS on

Rejoice, MGoBloggers. The Name of the Year 2015 bracket is out!

I am proud to say that two of my nominees made it into this year's field: Mussolini Africano and Charity Sunshine Tilleman-Dick. While I have no way of knowing whether it was my nomination that got them in, I'm going to pretend it was because doing so makes me happy. I love NOTY very much, and 2015 has got a really deep field.

Early favorites include Manmeet Colon, Flavious Coffee, Understanding Bush, Reverend Pierrebatista Pizzaballa, and Infinite Grover. But you've got to let these things marinate, I'm sure that when it's all said and done my favorite name will have shifted.

Atheletes? Anyone in America? Or does anyone in the world qualify?

These are incredible, but to me it's a lot more fun seeing some of these crazy awesome names on a jersey and hearing an announcer actually try to pronounce some of them.

There is something weirdly compelling about the prospect of seeing a doctor whose name and title happens to be Dr. Wallop Promthong, although I would admittedly be wary of the notion that quite possibly their clientele might not necessarily be in the office for typical ailments. Names like Infinite Grover sort of make me think of "Sesame Street" in a different, decidely psychadelic light and Dallas Ennema sounds like something you might see Dr. Promthong about.

Manmeet Colon has my vote. I'm sure there is a different pronunciation than the one I use and so I do feel slightly mean for laughing, but if there was ever a time and place....

I was looking up a few of the names and found that Tunis van Peenen has a brother Marinus van Peenen who deserves to be included.  Their other brothers, Gary, George, Kenneth, and Jacob do not qualify.
