Submitted by Eric on
So I'm an avid home brewer and I need the help of the MGoBlog community. I want you to help me name my next beer. Your post should include 1)what kind of beer it should be 2) what to name it. The winner will receive a free case of it when it's done. (provided you are 21 years of age). (EDIT) Winner is Zoltanrules with Ale to the Victors. e-mail me your contact info. [email protected]

I've always wanted to make one called "Ale Davis" and have it be aged to the point where it is virtually spoiled, yet I would enjoy drinking an old, spoiled beer that is called "Ale Davis" because of the irony. Hyuck hyuck.

I dabbled in home-brewing a couple years ago and wanted to make a cherry porter, so I could name it "Terry Cherry Porter", in reference to the former player & then-Pistons assistant coach. I suppose you could also go with "Jerry Cherry Porter" after the perennially underachieving NFL wideout. Yeah those are both pretty stupid but whatever.

I think you should do a 1) porter. and name it 2) The MgoBrew Dark MgoBrew is more of a brand name than a specific type. A more creative name for a porter would be "The Cop Puncher"

If you are interested in making a flavored one, you could make a dark ale with a hint of grape flavor (nothing strong) and you could use a very high original gravity to yield a high amount of alcohol - like 8-9% abv and then call it "Grapes of Wrath." I dunno why I've just always thought that was a great idea but never worked up the courage to try it.

Flavor Corners....whatever type you prefer to make it. I'd go with a hefeweizen type but it's your choice....Flavor Corners knows no bounds when it comes to variety.

Weapon of Choice - large IPA or Belgian Tripel The Lloyd - full-flavored Red Rye (I don't know why, but when I think Lloyd I think rye - rye beer, rye whiskey, even rye bread). Chris Perry Carry - a smooth lager that finishes strong. A beer that you could call on an excessive number of times during the Michigan State game to carry you through.
