OT: Naked mile run

The post on Hash Bash got me thinking about the naked mile run. I went to two runs in 2000  and 2001. Do they still have the naked mile run in April and is it still pretty big??

When people could just watch it, it was cool. Then it became on online perverts convention with every degenerate in the Midwest coming to town and filming it and uploading it. The city and the University didn't think it was cute anymore, and really started arresting people, so it was quashed in about 2 years. For the best really. When it was a student thing it was cool; when weirdos started getting their jollies off it wasn't good for students to be online doing that.

However she of course warned us about not stepping on the M until after our first blue book exams, and explained that the only way to reverse the curse was to run naked from the steps of the grad, to Rackham Auditorium and back... while the clock tower strikes midnight.

Still haven't stepped on the M to this day. I miss Ann Arbor. That is all.

When I used to see the tours across the diag every now and then I'd run screaming "I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!", tearing by them.

The look of horror on their faces was worth it.

It's the Nude Mile. I ran it the first 6 years. I was a rower, but it was majority track and cross country runners in the first few years. I understand why it died, given the cops and cameras. But I'm still disappointed that students don't find creative ways the keep the tradition alive. I would love to hear that there were small groups of streakers wearing masks on campus in the Spring. Good times.

Ran it once in a revealing Speedo on a cold, cold April evening once......so, not totally naked.  I was paranoid about shrinkage, for I had a date later that evening. Met her at the finish line and saw all that I needed to see really *fond memories, stares into space*.

U came to the crew team (which traditionally started the run along with some other teams) and asked them not to participate. In return they got some favors from the AD. That and all the video cameras killed it.

One of the huge problems now is that police will probably ticket anyone who actually runs the nude mile these days. I can't speak for everyone, but I know all of my friends would have done it, but for the fact that basically all of my friends had MIP's and weren't willing to take another citation just for one night of tradition.

I think the police crackdown on college kids in general has a lot to do with the fading away of the naked mile... otherwise i assure you there would be no shortage of participants.

At Arizona St the students do what they call the Undie Run.  It's pretty much the same thing except all the students are in undergarments and it's a real big thing.  The cops at Arizona St are notorious for giving out MIP's because of its rep as a party school, so I think that we would be able to do something like the Undie Run if Arizona St can.  What do you think?

Those who stay will be champions.

Men’s crew, lacrosse team opt out of Naked Mike

The men’s crew (rowing) and lacrosse team will not participate in this year’s Naked Mile.

In a meeting held during the crew’s opening weekend of racing in Ithaca, N.Y., the crew team decided it will no longer take part in the event to which it has been linked over the past 15 years. The men’s lacrosse team has drawn the same conclusions, and will join in the boycott....

My favorite Naked Mile Run story. This was after the U started closing the Law School Reading room, must have been 2000.

The run is going on like always only smaller, and there are more cameras than you could shake a stick at, news helos overhead, and the cops are all off pretending they have runs somewhere so they can ignore the 'arrest on sight' orders they had.

So this serious group of pinched face girls with glasses are wearing some kind of t-shirt uniform, maybe something like sex harrassment task force.

When guys would get way carried away clapping for a really good looking runner girl, or move for a better camera angle, one or two of the very serious task force girls would jump in front, wave her arms, and squawk some version of "Stop objectifying women!"

I stopped one and said "But she is running naked through the streets, she wants attention just like you do." I escaped to Ashleys with my life.

Howdy
