OT: My Versus Commercial Idea for the Stanley Cup Playoffs

Submitted by the_big_house 500th on

After watching all the Versus ads for the Stanley Cup Playoffs an idea popped into my head for one of their promo ads.

It will start with 16 and all are looking to move on into in the next round that will carry them closer to me. I am the reason why they are fighting night in and night out. I can drive them to over 6 periods of hockey just so they can get one step closer to me. I am the reason why they bleed, sweat and cry when they lose, and rejoice when they win. I can be a beautiful sight and also the most horrifying that you'll ever see if you’re not on the opposite end. I've been lifted by legends and heroes all who have had their names engraved within me forever. I have every name of every player who has been worthy of my title. Even a mystery name not known to the world, only to me. I have built dynasties, franchises and champions throughout my existence. I have seen some of the craziest celebrations and biggest parties that nobody except a choice few will ever witness. Names like Orr, Gretzky, Lemieux and Howe have been my keepers. My job is simple; to wait for the ones that have proven themselves worthy of my raising for all to see. I might not be a part of their team but until they are knocked out I am everything they live and play for. I am tradition in this league. I am the Alpha and the Omega of their season. I am, the Stanley Cup.

I think that this would be a great commercial. I was not sure what type of video you were thinking, but i think it would be great to have a lot of the great playoff moments in NHL history. Pretty much all of the moments thats the NHL has shown in their commercials, except these would be silent and not played in reverse order

I would have probably not been a big fan of the Alpha-Omega comment. But, since that game pretty much defined my life for several months, I have many very positive thoughts towards that comment now.

I really like this idea for a commercial. Start with the Cup resting at center ice and have the camera slowly zoom in while the text is being read by someone with a hockey-worthy voice. During the reading, have flashes of highlights interject sparingly and briefly like voices trying to be heard. End it with several "epic" Cup raises strung together followed maybe by the image of a losing team watching a celebration.

God damn it. I am ready to watch some playoff hockey.
