OT: my friend walked away from this...

Submitted by GOBLUE4EVR on
this is a picture of my friends SUV after a 22 ton coil of steel fell off of a flat bed trailer when it tipped over earlier this week. my buddy walked away from this with no injuries what so ever. the people from windsor that post on here probably saw this on the news. here is the link to the article: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/windsor/story/2009/11/11/windsor-coil-rollover…

of the stuff being hauled on the back of trucks. One time I saw a car detach from a 14 car trailer and crush a car about 150 feet ahead of me in the left lane. It was on of those, "I'm awake now" kind of moments. 22 tons of steel went through that car like butter. I can't believe no one was hurt.

Last weekend, a ladder actually flew off the top of a van that was in front of me on the freeway. Thankfully, I have also always been leery of vehicles carrying cargo so I slowed down a few minutes earlier and was able to easily avoid the ladder. I would definitely recommend that people do not follow any vehicles with cargo closely.

That's awesome. I can honestly say that I have no idea what would go through my mind if I looked up and 22 tons of steel was falling onto my car. Granted, I drive a '95 Geo Prizm, so the whole situation would probably have ended a little differently.

my mom and i shared a 93 geo metro convertible so i understand where you are coming from. i used to get scared when i drove by trucks on the free ways in windsor and when i would come to michigan to visit family. there was no way that convertible top was going to stop anything.

I drove a 93 Geo Tracker in highschool. I got hit by a freaking mountaineer that blew a red light. the "hard top" flew off and the front end was completely gone. For some reasons Geo's seem like death traps but everyone always seems to walk away from them after an accident... granted I didn't exactly walk away with a broken femur. But I am alive!

2 accidents with the metro. first i got t-boned by a GMC jimmy that was doing 35 mph through a parking lot. the guy tried to lie to the cops and say that i hit him first even though there was no damage to the front end of my car. needless to say his insurance company fixed the car for us. and the second accident was 4 years later, i fell asleep driving home and and i took out a light pole, thank god it fell to the left of the car instead of straight down. there was no fixing it that time.

That's insane. I can't imagine how many bodily fluids would come flying out of me if that had happened to me. I'll still be freaked out. Glad your friend is alright.

In my prior job I was a quality manager at a steel company. Trust me, do not follow steel trucks. Always remember that it's the truck driver who chains these coils down. The law in Michigan is 1 chain for every 10,000 lbs, which I personally don't think is enough. I'm glad your friend is okay. This could have been much worse.

Cuz that coil really took a bad angle on the truck! All kidding aside, it's good news that your friend wasn't hurt at all. It will definitely be a very blessed Thanksgiving for him.

First of all, I'm glad your friend is okay - that is just ridiculous. I actually work for ArcelorMittal, a steel making company where we have trucks carrying coils all the time leaving and arriving from our facilities. Out of all the training I've gotten, about 90% is on safety and how not to drive anywhere near flatbed trucks carrying coils or slabs because of that exact fear. From what I understand of these situations, they're going to look into making sure that truck was able to handle such a load if the truck itself was "wobbling" from the coil and if so, it'll turn out pretty messy to determine if it's the trucking company's fault or not. Again, I am glad your friend is safe.

I open this thinking it will be a pic of a hot broad that your buddy mistakenly decided to not hook up and I get a different kind of wreckage all together! I am glad he is ok.

but that pictures illustrates how i have felt after the last few games; crushed, demolished, but with parts of me still hanging in for the remaining 2 games.
