OT- MSU-Ohio BBall Open Thread

Submitted by MGoBeer on

Should be starting any minute now on ESPN. Pretty big game in the B1G race. It'll be interesting to see the MSU bigs against Sullinger. Anyone rooting for anything besides asteroid?

We have a chance at a B10 title.  MSU winning helps us with that.  Seeing as neither winning is very appealing, I'll take the option that most helps us win a B10 title.

But I'm not really rooting for anything.

I would argue OSU winning helps our B10 title chances.  If we are going to win the B10 we have to beat OSU next Saturday, that means before this game we are essentially a game back of both in the loss column.  If MSU wins @OSU then I would say there is a better chance that they dont lose again than OSU losing again with their trip to E Lansing still to come.

Eh we really just want them to split the two games so its more of whoever loses this game needs to win the next meeting thats about it in terms of rooting interest, can't really afford for either one of these teams to get two wins out of it.

It's the offseason. I, like a few other people on this blog, like college basketball. This is a big game in the B1G. You may not be aware, but that's the conference Michigan is in. I strictly avoid all the posts about Urban Meyer because they don't interest me. If you don't like college basketball, I advise you stay off threads that are clearly marked "BBall Open Thread." Did you complain when someone made a B1G championship game thread because this isn't a Wisconsin or MSU blog?

The great thing about this game is that one of them will lose.  What sucks, though, is that one of them will win.  I don't have the stomach to watch this game or cheer for either team.

He's so used to getting fouls called just for the little nudges, it's almost like he built his game around it and It's not going to get called today.

I really hope it is as much fun to watch as the football game they played earlier this year because that was one of the best time I have had watching a football game.

with both teams being equally hated....it is rather funny to listen to Dakich and the other guy blatantly pull for one team over the other. I mean they have pretty much been on the ohio jock all game long.

Technical difficulties the entire game have made this nearly impossible to watch. PS State is the better overall team, besides Buford OSU has no one with a reliable jump shot.

Watching Craft against us and against sparty.......he should go to jail for rape. it's been a long time since I have seen a guy get away with that much bumping while defending on the ball.

We can defend the first shot of OSU as well as MSU. The problem is, when OSU misses vs MSU they do NOT get the O Reb. When we force a miss against OSU they still get the O Reb on ~40% of their misses and usually score on the ensuing broken play or tip in. That was the story when we played them in Cbus. Good initial D but couldn't end the possession by getting the defensive rebound.

On O we will struggle vs OSU unless Smot can get some points playing the 5.

As much as I dislike Sparty, I very much enjoyed watching Sullinger crying the whole game. Three-year-old at Toys-R-us.

This was a game of two GOOD teams, something Michigan is striving to be.  Why not watch to see what it looks like.  (Yes, I do think Michigan is currently a good team)

MSU is playing some damn good basketball.  They look tough and Izzo has them zoned in.  I'm glad Michigan is done with them.  I can see them winning the Regular Season championship.  Scary team to face right now, when Appling isn't turning it over and Green in rhythm, man.   OSU is also damn good, but vulnerable.  They flat out couldn't shoot today, however, and was a reason Sparty was able to take this game from them.  Another reason was once again Sparty's Defense; suffocating.  But Michigan has a shot against OSU, though our players need to fix a few things and do a few things better by next Sunday for that to happen.

Also, Craft is a great defender.  I understand he's a guy one easily dislikes because of his style and he may get away with a few things others don't, but the kid can play ball.  Not sure where all the claims he isn't any good come from.  I can't name a better defender off the top of my head and his play is key to OSU's success.

Lastly...damn I hate both of these programs.  I apologize for writing such positive things about our 2 most hated opponents...

Mad props to sparty, that was an impressive performance.  Payne has looked so clueless in so many of their games and he was outstanding.

The good thing is that we're now 1 game back of first in the loss column/  We only need help to catch sparty.  Outside of the game next Sunday we have one of the more favorable schedules the rest of the way.  Beat ohio and this race could get really exciting for us

Tom Izzo is a whining, arrogant, self-centered crybaby who loses with horrible grace and has never seen an excuse he didn't like, but damn that man can coach.

Jared....the big, little man.

Honestly, if you were having a pick up game of BB based on body language, would you take Jared from Ohio or Jared from Subway?

Sullinger's hurt.  It's pretty clear watching the way he moves, falls, gets up, etc, that he's having pretty significant back issues.  The State game was the first time, since early in the season, that I've seen it affect the team this badly.  Word on the street that he has a slipped disk, just a matter of time before it needs to be addressed surgically.  Always hate to see a kid hurt, especially one with this much NBA potential, but his injury should put Michigan in a better position next weekend against Ohio at home.

"Oh they came to bury Michigan, but Michigan wasn't dead." Then they killed the Wolverine for sure, and that was that.

Hey, I see you and some others referring to Ohio State as “Ohio”. I thought Ohio was in the MAC. So next you’ll be calling Michigan State “Michigan”? That could get confusing. But then, American English is rapidly deteriorating anyway. Awesome, dude!

I remember the old UM fan line, “Oh how I hate Ohio State”. I guess that line is inoperative now?

I watched the MSU-OSU game last evening (suffered through the bad ESPN feed). MSU did not play great, but was tougher than OSU. Still some difficult assignments ahead. Would rather be in 1st than 3rd now, but a lot can happen yet. But hey, if UM finishes 3rdin the B1G, and MSU finishes 1stor 2nd, then maybe UM can get a higher NCAA seed. You know, just like the BCS!

But I digress. I do believe that UM can beat OSU in AA, and MSU can beat them again in EL in their final regular season game. MSU could lose some other game, however, e.g., at Indiana. It’s still a wide open contest for the B1G title.

Sullinger is no doubt hurting to some degree. Just how much is the question. He was also hurting in the Purdue game (bruised hip). Even so, the guy is a load.
