OT: MSU not completely rotten.
So to go with my diary post a while back, the EL newspaper just released a big story on what the football team is doing with my cousin, figured some of you who appreciated the diary might like a read:
EDIT: Here's a video to go along with it.

You do know the OP was about a little girl with cancer, right?

i obviously didn't read the article, its easy to just reflexively post those. I'm not that much of asshole

this is a great story and kudos to MSU for giving back and helping this girl and her family through an incredibly difficult time.

this is so much bigger than a football game. i dislike sparty as much as the next guy but this is nice to see these players opening their hearts to her. hats off to the spartan football team

Reminds you of his mentor a bit doesn't he.

I'd argue you can be anti-cancer and still pretty classless as a football program, but good on them for this.
November 21st, 2011 at 9:09 PM ^
I don't think I've ever met anyone who's PRO cancer...

If I'm Hoke, once the season ends I put a photo of Gholston smacking Lewan in the face and the head twist of Denard up everywhere like the score of the 1968 game inspired the team in 1969.

I'd put up digital frames that can play the .gifs, or borrow the IPads from the Angry Bird facility. It is clear those things work after the Memphis game!
Really though, I would hope there is no need for a reminder. I"d be happy if Hoke felt a need to search them for chain belts and brass knuckles before the game.

Off the field, they have some heartfelt moments. It's just on the field that they field 22 starting douches then.
Congratulations on helping this girl all the same though.

Not to take anything away from a good story, but do 11-year-olds really have cell phones?
November 21st, 2011 at 9:35 PM ^
Most that I know have smart phones with unlimited text and 4-G.
November 22nd, 2011 at 10:27 AM ^
My 14 year old son and 9 year old daughter both have cell phones. My 3 year old daughter has no use for one yet but when she starts school I will get her one. I want my children to be able to get in touch with me anytime they want or need to.

college coaches and athletic departments do a great job out in the community.
This really shouldn't surprise anyone.

At the end of the day we are all Americans and college football is just a sport.

FWIW....I have cancer too and the believe it or not one of the world's most renown specialist in my particular form of it (Carcinoid) is at the James Cancer center at OSU.
I may root against them like hell in football but their oncology team is A-OK with me. So go Sparty here too. When it comes to staying alive you'll find you can put aside your feelings about a football team pretty fast.

Good by MSU. The rivalry is always fun, but I try to never forget that the rivals are still people, many of whom do amazing things to help others.

but you may notice that my avatar is a picture of Kirk Cousins. That is because I am a huge fan of his and of many players on the Michigan State Football team.
About this time last year, a 40 year old friend of mine was beginning to lose his fight against brain cancer. Through some associations, I was able to put the word out to Kirk that it would mean a great deal for my friend to meet him.
The next day, Kirk personally called my wife and arranged for him, his brother, and some of his teammates meet with my friend and his family. These guys came over that day and talked with them, prayed for him, and spent time with his boys. It was a selfless gesture from a bunch of guys we had never met.
I agree with bronxblue and some of the other posters that it is fun to have a rivalry, but it is also good to remember that we are all people. Therefore I have no problem cheering for many of the Spartan players knowing that they do so much in our community.

That is pretty cool.

My Sparty brother's kids grew up with Paige. She really is a sweetheart . I've met her several times at my nephew's birthday parties in past years and was shocked to hear about her brain tumor. I really hope that things work out well for her. Yeah , I can't wait til the day when M dominates Sparty ( hopefully next year) but kudos to that team for doing somthing that actually isn't thuggery.

Well Done, Sparty!
Go Blue!

that'd neg the OP for posting this...??

I've been reading a lot about her lately, and I'd love to get one of those bracelets.
Here's more on her from Joe Rexrode's blog:

A fantastic piece and something that warms your heart..Yet some people still see the need to be douches in this thread...Im sure if the script was flipped, those same people would be bashing spartans who bring up dirty play on the field in a thread like this..This goes well beyond the "game" off football and emotions..ITs about life...Geez.

that anyone could conceivably post the neg comments they have. Get a life. I truly hope you never have to deal with this type of thing in your family or, God forbid, with your children. Kudos to those looking past the rivalry to see what's important here. This little girl is in the battle of her life and someone is taking the time to be there for her. I don't care who they are or what color uni's they wear - kudos to every one of them.
