OT: MSU Football or Basketball school?

Submitted by AeonBlue on

I know I've been reposting a lot of Rittenberg's things the last couple of days but I think this one is especially interesting. I know most of us would argue that MSU is a basketball school but it's interesting to see their responses to the question. Is this a product of recent success or something else?

Little Brother cannot seriously consider themselves a football school unless being a football school is characterized by historic mediocrity. The 60's are over. Deal with it.

A turf school? You don't have grass in basketball (unless you believe the rumors that Lucious was booted for drug use... zing!), so I guess they'd technically be more of a football school.

MSU is a remora that has attached itself to the underbelly of the University of Michigan.  Until it stops defining itself in terms of and comparisons to Michigan, that's all it will ever be.

Tyler's response was unbelievable:

"Top 25 in attendance every year for a mostly average program."

"It's the Detroit media that's always trying to hold us back."

Are you kidding me? How can you say your school is a football school when you admit that it is a "mostly average program?"  Not only that, but they have no idea what it means to have the Detroit media hold your program back.

MSU is a basketball program in my mind.

their entire basis for being a football school is beating michigan 3 years in a row. in the 3 worst year of michigan football since the 50s or 60s. the notion that MSU is a football school is insane

plus, we usually think MSU commenters are dumb. and we usually think espn commenters are dumb. so what does that make MSU fans commenting on espn? probably best to walk away from this one
