OT: Most Popular D1 Nickname???
The Softball team played the Utah Valley Wolverines this weekend. There are only 2 D1 schools named Wolverines. Their colors are green and gold.
Can everyone name the most popular D1 nicknames? The #1 spot has 5 schools and #2 and #3 have 4 schools each.
No cheating. No google. Just memory.

Not sure where these numbers came from, but they're way too low. The most common nickname is used by 14 schools.
I think he is suggesting D1 football
Cardinals, Huskies and Wildcats.
When do we get the answer?
I had an over-seas conference call late last night.
1) Tigers at 5
2) Tied at 4 are Bulldogs and Wildcats.
Savannah State Tigers
I think there's a lot of Bears but nobody has guessed that yet.
Quiz No.2.
Can you name all the schools who's nickname don't end in an "S" ?!
(This is more D-1A, Football schools)
Stanford Cardinal, Syracuse Orange, Marshall Thundering Herd, Alabama Crimson Tide... Gotta be a few more
Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Illinois Fighting Illini
UMass Minutemen? I think.
Crimson Tide, Green Wave, Mean Green,Orange, and Cardinal.
Edit: Forgot about Marshall, ND and Illinois
Good.
However, the trickiest one of all, in my opinion, has been forgotten!
North Carolina State and University of Nevada (Reno) WOLFPACK.
Navy Midshipmen, NC State Wolfpack, Nevada Wolfpack, and Tulsa Golden Hurricane
If a team from Georgia wears blazers to play a Golden Hurricane, do they wind up with Yellow Jackets?
My persona favorites are the Beavers, OOooregon Ducks and MOREHEAD state please. I know, im a perv...
If you're talking football, # 1 is tigers with Auburn, Memphis, LSU, Missouri, and Clemson. # 2 is bulldogs and wildcats. Bulldogs are Fresno State, Mississippi State, Georgia, and Louisiana Tech. Wildcats are Kentucky, Arizona, Northwestern, and Kansas State.
is the Richmond Spiders.
It's not willfully weird like Bananna Slugs (which I like - don't get me wrong), but it's still one of a kind (as far as I know).
This thorough enough?
Pretty impressive you created that without google
While not a college team, I've always been partial to Macon Whoopee.
Could Aggies be one of the top ones...Texas a&m and Utah st come to mind, i feel like there must be others.
MAC?
Michigan State used to go by the Aggies, but then they held a contest in 1925 to come up with a new nickname, because, you know TRADITION!
Anyway, they elected to change their nickname to the Michigan "Staters" {snicker} only to have the Lansing State Journal press for one of the losing entires, the "Spartans", and this eventually caught on.
#LOLStaters
Name the handful (not sure exactly how many) of D1 football schools whose mascot doesn't end in s?
You should have read comments 52-57. Sorry TIM.
Its gotta be the Wildcats right?
A childhood favorite of mine. Name only.
I'd guess Wildcats. It seems like there's so many of them.
Or Tigers or Bulldogs. It's definitely not like Cornhuskers or Golden Flashes.
I'm going to say the Eagles are in there....
Eastern Michigan
Boston College?
I know for sure
Tigers: LSU, Clemson
Wildcats: Davidson, Northwestern, Kentucky, Kansas State
Bulldogs: Fresno State, UGA, Miss St
Huskies: Uconn, Washington
Bears: Baylor, Cal...
The big ten has some really unique names!!! Id go with Wildcats, then Bulldogs (I think SCST are the bulldogs maybe) and Tigers for the second place one
