OT: Most hated CFB coach

Submitted by Hair Raid Offense on

I hate to bring an air of negativity to the board, but I was just sitting here thinking about how much I hate Lane Kiffin.

What college football coach do you hate most and why?

I'll go first:

-I'd never had any feelings towards Kiffin until he got fired from the Raiders after 2 horrible seasons, and he came off as a total fucking moron in his response on ESPN

-He took over at Tennessee (I was pissed at Tennessee for firing Fulmer)

-the numerous cocky-dickhead statements he made during the off season and recruiting violations at Tennessee

-ditching his team after 1 season

-going to USC (one of my most hated schools)

-allowing the Reggie Bush shit to go on when he was at USC as the OC

-he's just a dick head

a close 2nd for me is Mark Dantonio

Going after Urban Meyer for the "retirement fiasco" is a little silly. The man had health problems, decided to retire, decided instead to see if he could just cut back the intensity, got addazioed, and now he's done. This is pretty logical to me.

The Tebow stuff bugged me and the guy's generally an automaton and a prick to boot but going after him for the retirement thing last year is a bit misguided in my opinion.

I hate BK for they way he looks like his QB betrayed him after every missed play. I used to hate Spurrier but not as much anymore.

From a homer perspective I had Dantonio, Danny Hope, and Brett Bielema. I'm not sure if I feel like those guys should be universally hated though.

does Pete Carroll still count?

I always thought he was emblematic of everything that was wrong with USC athletics (of which there are many things going beyond football), and Kiffin just gets to pick up where Carroll left off.

The rumor is that he was "associated" with Moeller's wife.

Which reminds me, someone said on a different thread today that Brandon was on the search committee that recommended Miles.  Was that a rumor, too?  Because I'd have been hesitant to recommend Miles if there was truth to the former...

no one can top dantonio on my most hated list, but for the sake of this thread I would have to say Brian Kelly.  Mainly for the tragic incident with the student dying at practice, he told the kid the weather was fine and he should be up there.  I mean come on...

Eh, being dislikable and having a lack of judgment aren't necessarily the same things in this instance.  I'm sure Kelly and whoever was involved feel absolutely awful about what happened and will carry it to their graves.  Now if you cited him constantly yelling at his players and getting in their face, I wouldn't defend him as such.

You can hate what he's done to Michigan, and that fucking school he works for, but I have nothing but respect for him. Anytime he is quoted about Michigan, he never says anything demeaning or even aggravating (as far as I've heard) and I believe he only had supporting things to say about RR in the wake of the practice allegations.

There was a girl in my high school whose father was killed in Iraq. The man had some connection to OSU's football program way back in the day, and his family still had ties to the program. Upon his death, Tressel drove up to Grand Rapids to console the family and present them with a football signed by the team. I've liked the guy ever since.

So while I am instinctively inclined to hate everyone who even wears red, my perseption of the man is nothing but positive. Hate the outfit, not the man.

That's really classy on his part.  I get the feeling that he is ok guy when he is away from football.

He's still the guy behind drug-sniffing dogs going through all the Michigan gear and casting Clarett to the curb when he had no further use for him.

Sorry to turn this into a Tressel respect-fest, but some might remember that he did an interview with a Columbus gay magazine and he talked about how he tries to teach his players to be honest to themselves and respect their teamates and people in general as human beings.

I read that was the first time any D-1 college football coach had ever done an interview with that kind of magazine and I thought, wow, much respect dude.

So I've had a hard time disliking him ever since then.

Tressel is fine. The Clarrett stuff was a long time ago now and he probably deserves the benefit of that doubt that the period was an aberration. I remember when he said that he would welcome a gay player on his team last year and I thought "Wow. Good for hime." Most coaches wouldn't go there.

He has merely taken advantage of our incompetence the last 10 years. When I get mad about the state of the Michigan-OSU rivalry, I get mad at mistakes we've made, not at Tressel.

I only "hate" in a kayfabe way, like you "hate" a professional wrestling "heel," but here's my short list:

1.  Dantonio.  Between having a roster full of jailbirds and intentionally injuring UM players, there's plenty to go around.  Also talks the talk waaay too much.

2.  Tressel.  Progenitor of Dantonio's code of ethics.

3.  Danny Hopeless.  And classless.

that Dantonio was substantially more molded from Nick Saban than Tressel.  He only coached under Tressel for 3 years and they spent a year on Earle Bruce's staff together in 83.  Dantonio spent 5 years working for Saban.

I'm surprised.

First class jerk interviewed for a job before Tubberville was fired. Hijacked Louisville each year for more money and then bolted ASAP for Atlanta.

Left the Falcons during the season abruptly to coach at Arkansas. Didn't even tell the players to their face (at least Kelly did that), but sent them a FORM letter. When Randy Shannon was fired, he started hand writing letters to the players whose performance GOT him fired.

He welcomed Ryan Mallett in and has kept him - if that doesn't tell you all you need to know ...

Okay, I hate Dantonio, Brian Kelly is a smug, arrogent, mean man ...

Chip Kelly is also arrogent, brash, and rude (but I do love his teams, and his practices - or what I've seen of them).

But yeah, I have to go with Petrino.

Dantonio is #1 on my list, then a tie for second with Hope and Bielema 3rd/4th is probably Urban Meyer and the ass end of the list is Kiffin.  Appropriate don't ya think?

Dantonio by far. He picked a fight with Michigan the day he became coach. We never really responded. Time to put Dantonio in his rightful place. I hope Alabama squashes him.

Dantonio

Saban

Kiffin

Carroll

Hope

Meyer

Miles (Assuming the rumors about him from the Moeller era are true, if not I guess I don't have much of a beef with him)

Kiffin:  Guy is just a douche.  He's a little drama queen who has no business being such a dick to everyone until he actually starts winning football games.

Hope:  His trite little game he played after the game last year was ridiculous.

Bielema:  Looks like he has to poop ALL THE TIME.

Tressel:  I hate him for being so hard to hate.  That bastard.

Saban:  The dude is just straight up evil.  He sells kids short and promises them everything in the world before taking their dreams away.  Fuck him.

I don't really hate any coaches for being arrogant.  Honestly, in this profession, it's hard not to be a successful leader and still be arrogant.  To some extent, it means you're confident.  It's when the arrogant causes harm to others that it becomes a problem.

I think that "I was just sitting here thinking about how much I hate Lane Kiffin" is one of the funniest things I've read on this site. It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one who does that.

Bielema is really hard to look at, and seems like a huge douche, but Wisconsin isn't high profile enough for him to be a high profile coach, so that hate stays within the Big Ten.

Saban is obviously evil, but does enough cameos and Gameday commercials that he may be salvaged in the public eye (that might not see his shady recruiting), despite abandoning a few fanbases.

In that case, it would have to be Kiffin. Kiffin has pissed off the entire SEC (with NEW! Rocky Top Rage!), made an absolute fool of himself on multiple occassions, and has never proven he is a winner. Plus, he has the good genes good looks, but with the slight chub of someone who's been indulged. All that + rumored nepotism = HATE

This may surprise you, but my least favorite head coach is Brett Bielema. Why? Let's see the dude runs up the score on Indiana and Northwestern. He passed late in each game. He also went for two against Minnesota because it was on the so called card. Overall the man has no class and he is a total douchebag.

Two-pronged question for me.

As a Michigan fan, my most hated coach is Dantonio. Easily the least respectable coach of a UM rival since I've been following the game.

As an objective college football fan, it's Kiffin. Urban was the only one even close for me but now that he's gone it's Lane with a bullet. For all the talk about what a douche LK is, it's also easy to hate him for his hollow success. The guy has never had a truly successful season as a head coach in his life yet somehow has landed an NFL gig and two plum college jobs in his short career. You have to root for a guy like that to fail.

RichRod. He took my favorite team and made them a laughing stock, ended the bowl streak/winning season streak, and was responsible for the sanctions. He's the worst and it's not even close.

BlueCheez

big arrogant looking douchebag who happens to be a drunk and always looks constipated. I actually think this guy believes he's on Michigan's level. 4 rose bowls in 100 years and even during a rose bowl year can't land anything but 2 and 3 star recruits.I can't stand Bielema or that Wisconsin program.

Lou Holtz, forever and always. He is the Gretzky, the Jordan, and the Jim Brown -- all rolled up into one -- of douchy coaches. Kiffin, Dantonio, and Bielema can only aspire to attain the depths of Holtz's douchiness. Also, Woody Hayes.
