october 10th, the bears are coming to town!!
so much for that
Wouldn't that be typical Lion luck. They finally get on the MNF schedule and the season gets locked out. The onl thing that would make it even more Luckless Lions would be if the lockout ended into a shortened season that resumed the week after the Lions were supposed to be on MNF.
Wonder if the NFL is rewarding us for hosting the Vikings/Giants game? Great news though, up and coming lions getting some love.
Blank.....Blank......You're not looking at the big picture here.
My guess is that they are actually rewarding us for finally beginning resemble an NFL football team. (though I'm sure the MInnesota thing didn't hurt)
That's great news. I actually have pretty high hopes for both Michigan and the Lions this year.
Yes, it is sad I am that excited for this...no, I don't give a damn...
This is awesome, finally the Lions are gaining respect...
Also, unless something changes, I am pretty sure Millen is doing MNF post game...from the field...that whole night will be amazing
I had a feeling the Lions would get a prime-time game this year, but thought maybe a Thursday night road trip to Chicago or New Orleans. I'll take a Monday Night game at Ford Field vs. the Bears. I can finally see what a packed, loud, raucous Ford Field sounds like on TV when they're cheering a decent team instead of jeering a craptastic franchise.
Unfortunately, Matt Millen will likely be there too as part of the ESPN pre-game hooplah.

Expect the season to start no sooner than October 16th

Are you sitting on the edge of your seat?
Come and watch the Detroit Lions
that no one seems to beat
Four Wins in a Row!!!
every Sunday. You couldn't leave your seat/couch in fear of missing highlight reel plays or big TD runs. He was that special because of his agility, acceleration, balance and speed. He was the one that you have to take account in every single play and that alone put pressure off the QB, WRs because you knew that you'd be facing a lot of single coverage or vanilla zone defense. As a defender, you never want to see Barry go North/South because he would make you silly but you have a chance if he's going East/West. Funny thing is if there's a hole to run through, Barry would take that hole and go North/South immediately. If he had a decent OL(yes I know there's a couple of PB OL but that's because Barry made them look good), Barry's stats would have been out of this world. It's a shame that Barry was sick and tired of the organization's lack of commitment to winning.
AND the Lions will be playing??
/stunned
Michigan Resurgent? Michigan Resurgent!
The beatings will continue until the uniforms improve!
Good shit! I've been waiting a long time for the Lions to get some prime-time action. Speaks volumes to the job our 3 headed monster has done for us (Lewand, Mayhew, Schwartz). Let's keep Stafford up right and see where he takes us. I see bright things in our immediate future. Restore the Roar! 1 Time...
If I say a duck can pull a truck, shut up and hook the sucka up!
Been waiting for 10 years for this ! I just wish it was Green Bay we were playing. At least we will get revenge for that stupid call in Chicago last year!
"They will meet a dastardly fate here for that! There isn't a Michigan Man who wouldn't like go out and scalp those Buckeyes right now."

this is saying its in Chicago...?????
Life's a game of Inches
Why is this a big deal? Just another home game, except you have to work during the day.
"It would be a travesty, it would be ridiculous to all of a sudden come back and get the feeling back, get the health back, feel good again and then all of a sudden go throw some other colors on my shirt and go coach."
Are you fucking kidding? MNF is nationally televised, its an opportunity to show yourself to the entire country! Also have you ever been to a MNF game? The whole crowd gets more amped up then while at a 1pm Sunday game.
If an OSU fan divorces his wife are they still brother and sister?
Sure, maybe the fans at the game are more hyped up and excited, but do people watching the game care? No.
If you watched the Steelers at Redskins 2008 MNF game, did you say to yourself, "Holy crap, Washington DC is crazy for football, I'm gonna remember these rabid fans and atmosphere for the rest of my life. I might even move to DC and start to root for the 'skins!"? No.
Say you watched the Browns at Bills MNF game in 2008, did you say to yourself, "Damn, those Bills fans are crazy, and the city of Buffalo looks really cool all lite up at night. It's gotten such a bad rap, but I respect it a lot more now!"? No.
Sure, hosting a MNF game is cool and all, but I don't know why the whole Detroit-area internet is burning down because they get to host a game. All teams get to host a MNF game once in a while -- some teams host them a lot more than others, but since there are 17 games and 32 teams, it eventually happens to everyone. I'm sorry, but it doesn't warrant the fervor that it is getting.

Thank you very much. Well put.

i assume you aren't excited about michigan's first night game coming up? or playing alabama in dallas? or all games the same?
No, it doesn't "eventually happen to everyone." It happens to teams that the NFL and its TV affiliates think people want to see. If it "eventually happened to everyone" in the way that you imply, it would've happened a lot more frequently in the past 10 years than it did, which is never. It's a sign that the Lions are relevant again for a reason other than ha ha ha look at the little dopes pretending to be an NFL team and never winning. I've been thinking about finally forking over for season tickets and I'm not ashamed to admit that the MNF news is starting to push me to take the leap.

When you can count on one hand the number of MNF games the Lions have participated in during the last decade (or maybe more like 15 years), then this is a huge, f*@$*ing deal for die-hard Lions fans. MNF appearances for the Lions are almost as rare as playoff appearances.
Awesome....how did they do last time they were on MNF?

Fuckin right. Suh bringing the pain on a Monday night!
I've decided to lay off the food for a while, and go on the booze.
......assuming it happens.
Players, owners....the residents of Metro Detroit would love for this to occur, so get a labor agreement hammered out.

Everyone needs to go to this game so the next time the Lions are involved in a nationally televised game not on Thanksgiving- which will be circa 2022- they can tell their kids, "the last time this happened, I was there, and we only lost be three touchdowns!"

Hell yes. Damn right.
Now we just need to make sure there's going to be a 2011-2012 NFL season...
"Ohio is like a giant turd that Michigan just can't pinch off"
It would be really typical "Curse of Bobby Layne" stuff if the Lions finally get a MNF game and the season doesn't start until the following week.
12-4 or 10-6 next season. That would be good enough for the playoff. I'm so pumped for the season. Owners and NFLPA please sign the labor agreement ASAP so I can watch my beloved Lions on primetime on Monday!!!!
Really? 12-4? Wow, Lions fans really are that funny. Good luck cleaning up the cellar again.

with a backup and 3rd string QBs starting for them. Also, they had several losses that the Lions should've won. They have the 2nd longest winnging streak in the NFL. They have beat Super Bowl Champion with a 3rd string QB starting for them which is something that is overlooked. They knocked Tampa Bay Buccaneers out of the playoff race on the road, no less. The Lions could've won 10 games last year(Bears, Jets, Bills and Dallas).
If you really think the Lions will suck next year, they wouldn't have been granted a MNF slot for this coming season. The NFL really thinks the Lions are a team to be reckon with so apparently, they disagree with your assessment.
Now lets get this labor dispute finalized so it actually happens.
