OT - MNF Bad Clock Management

Submitted by Enjoy Life on
Anyone else notice that the Saints almost figured out the only way to lose the game last night? They took over on the Atlanta 46 yard line with 1:42 left and Atlanta with 1 timeout left. If they kneel 3 times, that would take about 82 seconds or 1:22 (because of an Atlanta time out on one of the downs). So, Atlanta would get the ball deep in their own territory with just 20 seconds to go and losing by 11 points. But, the Saints decide to run a play. Their center gets injured, requiring them to take a timeout. Next play, Atlanta calls a timeout. Next play, the ball is stripped and the clock stops with 1:23 on the clock. All 3 plays did not look like much of an attempt to even get a first down. WTF? Why not just kneel down? Anyone know what they were thinking?

Huge pet peeve of mine. You are exactly right. Even after the Miracle in the Meadowlands teams run far too many plays at the end of halves instead of kneeling. My rule is if you are trying to score then score. If you are not trying to score then take a knee. I hate the half assed attempt to get a 1st down when it is unneccesary. My favorite is at the end of the half when they are just trying to kill the half in their own end and they hand off to their stud rb. Chance for injury and fumble just stupid. On the plus side it did allow me to get a miracle cover on Atlanta and win a couple hundred bucks in the pool I'm in. Nice job Peyton.
