OT: MMA fighter Kimbo Slice has died (edited)

Submitted by ckersh74 on

I think we're headed for another RIP thread. But "official" reports indicate that Kimbo Slice was taken to a hospital and "it doesn't look good".

Link when I get it in a minute.

EDIT: http://espn.go.com/mma/story/_/id/16008478/kimbo-slice-hospitalized-und…

EDIT #2: Apparently he's gone. Allegedly his cousin confirmed that he had a heart attack and could not be revived.

Everyone say it with me... Fuck 2016.

Unbelievable... RIP to Kimbo... started from being a niche street fighter, to Youtube sensation to MMA to Hollywood. Gotta respect the hustle.

I'm all for saying fuck 2016 for the amount of monumental deaths there seems to have been so far.  But lumping Kimbo Slice in with the magnitude of deaths of Bowie, Ali, Prince or even Wieland is going a bit overboard.

but the sheer surprise at a lot of these deaths are maddening.

Add Slice to the list along with not only the 3 you mentioned, but Alan Rickman, Phife Dawg, Maurice White, Garry Shandling, Nancy Reagan, Natalie Cole etc..

Damn.

All those people are amazing and influential on many lives.

But just as important is the fact that 69 people were shot on Memorial Day in Chicago...nearly 400 in the month of May alone.

I'm not comparing and this isn't the time or place to get all righteous - but damn, in the same vein that we're losing popular or influential people at a crazy rate...the violence in Chicago is unreal.

You comment about the number being high just reminded me of Chicago and the people who aren't famous.

It's all just too much.

Not minimizing the problems in Chicago, but your comment is kind of random. Violent crime is at an all time low in this country believe it or not.

Yeah places like Chicago still draw attention, but it is a classic availability heuristic at its finest.

It sucks that violent crime still happens given economic and personal circumstances.

As part of the Medicare Generation, there are times when I feel like my musical tastes may be stuck in the sixties. But I also realize that the times they are a changin'.

Before hearing Can I Kick It by A Tribe Called Quest a few years ago, I didn't like much of rap and hip-hop music; but I'm slowly coming around to appreciating that genre, especially after hearing that song and others from their 1991 album The Low End Theory and watching Straight Outta Compton and listening to the soundtrack from that film, as well as being introduced to songs from that genre by MGoBloggers who offer suggestions when off-topic, music threads pop up on the board.

Phife Dawg a.k.a "The Five Foot Assassin" (Malik Izaak Taylor) was a talented artist whose problems with diabetes cut his life too short.

Cmon.....the thing about growing up and getting older is that you know more people, which means that the frequency of deaths and illnesses in your life circles increases. People die every day, one day you and I will as well. Cherish life as much as possible. I wouldn't necessarily lump kimbo in with Bowie, Ali or Prince.... But in thinking about it, the entertaining thing is that of all these people, the one that I was most familiar with was Kimbo!!! I remember him from his reality kings days. Rest in Preace brother!

Depends on the person. Obviously you won't be doing acid or shrooms weekly unless you're not responsible.

It's a toss up for me. Shrooms just taste so bad. Gotta mix it in with a sandwich or soup to get over the taste hump.

do shrooms weekly.  There are little to no side effects from shrooms, though tolerance to psilocybin and psilocin is built up rather quickly (these are both true with LSD if you are mentally stable enough to handle hallucinogenics).

Personally, I don't like how LSD makes my stomach cramp up and makes it impossible to sleep until the next day.  6 hours after eating shrooms I am in bed and sleeping like a baby.  Also, I'm weary of how good the chemist was that made the LSD.  Hopefully, no bad contaminants.

Also, shrooms can be ground up and put into pills if you hate the taste.  Or blended with OJ.

Cocaine is man made.  You think you walk up to a coca plant and break off a leaf and white powder falls out?  That shit is processed with diesel fuel among other not so good chemicals.  There was a great episode of Drugs, Inc. on cocaine, how it is grown and processed etc.

Jesus people . . . no wonder everyone is overdosing . . . they have no clue what drugs come from where . . .

You probably think heroin isn't man made either.

Have to respect how he brought himself up and worked himself into being a success. Sure his fight with Dada 5000 set the sport of MMA back a few years.. but that doesnt change his hustle. RIP Kimbo.
