OT: MLB Opening Day
Anybody got plans for opening day for your respective team? Feeling especially optimistic about your team's chances this year?
For anyone coming out to Detroit, get here as soon as possible because it's going to be a mess with the construction on Woodward. The large street lots on Woodward are closed, and street parking is already mostly full.
Tried to convince a friend to watch the Tigers game with me later on MLB.com tape delay because I have to be in lecture from 2 to 3:30. No dice.
so I'm going to be meeting up with my girlfriend and all her co-workers who are taking the day off after they're all too sloshy to watch the game.
I don't think there will be a dominant team, and everyone but the Twins could be in the race into September.
And the Cubs... Looking forward to another season of quality entertainment. Last night was a great start.

to have the cubs open up the season before everyone else, just to ensure they get the first loss of the season. at least they can be the first at something, i suppose...
They definitely have all the pieces to make a run at the Division. Their bullpen will hopefully be bolstered by David Robertson and Zach Duke. Watch out for Micah Johnson at 2nd. Buzz out of Spring Training was off the charts for him. If he comes on, the White Sox may be the favorite to win the division. I'm expected a Wild Card run however. One of the 4 teams in this Division (Royals, Tigers, Indians, Sox) will be sellers in August, just wonder which one?
I too expect the White Sox to compete for the Central, but they also have the worst 4th and 5th pitchers of any of the top division teams, and I'm a bit leery of Samardzija being consistent over the course of a full season.
Honestly, I don't mean to temper expectations on the south side but we've also heard these stories about an up-and-coming 2nd basemen being the next big thing, see Beckham, Gordon.
Is very true with this team, especially Beckham. I think their 4th and 5th (Danks and Noesi) probably aren't on this team by the All Star break. Have a couple young guys waiting for the call up. Either way, will be a fun season on the South Side.
Even with the question marks and the improvement of the Sox, they still have the most starpower in the division. The Royals lost some key pieces, and the Indians will still have the same flaws they had last year. The combination of Cabrera, Martinez, Martinez, and Cespedes could be the best 3-6 in the game and will be very difficult for opposing pitchers to deal with.
The one and two combination of Price and a healthy Anibal Sanchez at the top of the rotation, regardless of what happens with Verlander is still top notch. I think non-Tiger fans underestimate Sanchez, the guy was the ERA champion in the AL two years ago.
The bullpen, Verlander's performance/health and other question marks like the leadoff spot against righties might keep this team from reaching it's ultimate goal again, though.
No real partying, just a couple pops before and during the game...just for me, of course.
Pavilion seats.
I love opening day. I dont have a favorite team, so my rooting interests usually lies with whoever is on my fantasy team. I have David Price as one of my SP, so I will be a Tigers fan today!
I'll watch with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind until Price gets pulled in the 3rd. Then the chores will be tended to.

We'll be grilling some hot dogs here and watching from the office - well, watching and working in some combination. It is unclear how much of one thing will specifically get done, but then after today I have the next two days off so I am not terribly inclined to do non-baseball things today. I will probably need to accomplish a few all the same.
....this afternoon. Pirates @ Reds, First Pitch at 4:10. Cincinnati used to be THE Opening Day event for MLB and is practically a local holiday. They have a pre-game parade that goes thru town that has a decidely All American small town feel. Should be a fun, beer-filled day.
have fun!
I have a meeting in the 1-3 block, which is unfortunate, but my office is on the east side of the Chiquita Buidling (5th & Main), so I can see the parade from up high!
I've done Opening Days before in Detroit and Pittsburgh, but I definitely think Cincinnati's Opening Day is the best of the three. As you said, THE Opening Day event for MLB.
Going to see the Tigers when Yankees are in town later this April.
Avoiding the chaos of Opening Day and going tomorrow night: Mariners hosting the Angels at Safeco. Mariners certainly seem to be baseball's media darling in the AL so far. Praying for a Mariner/Tiger ALCS so I can obnoxiously root for the Tigers at M's home games.
in place last year that prohibits broadcast of the games on the internet. you either get it 'organically' from a station that's licensed to broadcast it the old-fashioned way, or you don't get the broadcast at all. stupid decision by MLB, but there you have it.
Or you can pay 20 bucks and have access to any MLB radio broadcast for the entire season. Which seems like a pretty decent deal.
Watching the game on TV today. Tigers tickets for today were starting at $90...thinking about going Friday afternoon for $13 each.
I get that Opening Day is just a big block party and it's fun to be in the stadium for it, but the tickets have always been way too pricy for me once they hit the secondary market. Playoff tickets in some sections were cheaper.
I remember playoff tickets starting at around $80 on secondary markets the past few years. 6-7 years ago spending $90 on an opening day ticket would have been much more feasible (for me, anyway) than now

Nats play the Mets at 3:00 on ESPN with Scherzer starting. No pressure on him at all ;)

Not an NBA fan, and watching a baseball game is like watching paint dry.

It totally makes sense that you posted in a thread about baseball, then.
This Cespedes guy is pretty good eh
Eat 'em up, Tigers!
Bless you boys. I wish Price could have finished out the shutout but it's hard to complain about anything...today. Good job Nathan. It was only one out for the save but if it had gone south, well, nice job.
but damn did Price look good.
