But yeah... wow... I wonder how many other rival coaches are actually like this to one another behind the scenes...

The State coach kinda brought it onto herself by questioning his ethics...

More offended by his terrible grammar and punctuation. Now back to what real softball coaches and programs look like

The Mizzou coach was just reacting to his own chartacter being questioned.

I dont know what you would expect him to say. The MSU coach is a pussy.

"They spit sunflower shells on our field" lmao fuck off.

This is Michigan

No sunflower seeds on a turf field is pretty common. Unless you pick them up or wait until the wind blows them along the fence, they just pile up or even worse, they start replacing the ground up rubber in the turf. It's a simple request after spending a million plus to improve facilities.

Missouri State's coach should've just called to express her concerns instead of dropping that in an email. Never goes well having a difficult conversation in text. Mizzou's coach lost his mind and went over the top. I don't see much to get excited about here other than that we all know Mizzou's coach is a hothead now

That's a pretty sweet attempt at cyber bullying by the Missouri coach. What a douche. It's no wonder he had to put his tail between his legs and apologize.

Email is typically a poor form of communcation in organizations, I've found.  Fine for short messages and sending to a bunch of people to be efficient - "We may have a conflict and have to push the 2:00 meeting a half hour."  But picking up the phone and talking to someone goes a long way in providing context when the subject is delicate.  Especially if your message is going to likely rile some people up, and Missouri State's coach likely knew she was going to ruffle some feathers by throwing grenades like "dirty recruiter."

If Mizzou's coach had called back instead of hitting the keyboard, he would have been free to say the same things to State's coach (though maybe would have toned it down). Their conversation may have been nasty, maybe not. But he certainly wouldn't have to be apologizing.  Now the world knows he's a hot head and a bit of ass, and likely other coaches recruiting against him will use to their advantage.

Anyway, I blame them both. He looks like more of an ass than she does, but her email was bush league too. Have your AD call Mizzou's AD if you have that much of an issue.

I don't know. The Missouri coach was inappropriate in his tone and language but it was also inappropriate for the Missouri State coach to accuse him of NCAA violations. If I were the Missouri State coach, I'd use the slights by the Missouri coach as a motivational tool for my team and "punch the bully in the face" next year, metaphorically speaking.

She was noting that he had been found guilty of NCAA rcruiting violations.  She wasn't accusing him of anything.  Her use of "consistently" was unwarranted, though.

Note that Earlywine wasn't denying that everything she said was true.  He was just arguing that she is a worse character than even he is.

when she threw the 'ethics' guantlet down.   not my style or probably most of us on the blog, but the guy was justified in being ticked.

"Would you like me to respond to this or do you want to handle it?" - from the Missouri Director Of Softball Operations, after the "ethics" e-mail

Here again, we see one of the shortcomings of e-mail and why wandering into this territory - the things that might land you in employee or labor relations - is probably a good face-to-face, or minimally an over-the-phone opportunity.

Hesse shouldn't have gone the ethics route and in a professional setting, even if that e-mail is sent, let the people in your department whose daily life is smoothing out the shortsightedness of others handle the reply. Replying yourself, especially if you're deeply and personally offended as Earleywine was definitely won't help. I don't blame him for being pissed, of course - maybe there are e-mails missing here, but those accusations seemed to come from nowhere.

Wait, I like these except I don't understand the last one. Why is a wink better than a nod? Seems less subtle, not more.

Then again, a nod's as good as a wink to a blind bat, eh?

a pretty good kick out of it. Like some of you have mentioned, what's he supposed to do after they blatantly challenged his character? Best line: I'm surprised you've managed to keep your job despite being horseshit for so long.

It seems that the ethical accusations were much worse than Mizzou's response. While Mizzou could have responded much more professionally, the Mizz St coach's accusations were caustic. Mizzou certainly had a right to call bullshit on Mizz St. W/r/t the recruiting violations accusations, they could not really let those sit unresponded to, and it would have been a huge tactical mistake to argue it on the merits.

So bad on both of them, but worse on Mizz St for making those accusations in that forum. I hate that in this world the retaliator almost always gets cast as the bad actor.

Pretty funny, and the Mizzou coach was justified in being upset, but throwing out an email like that for all to see could come back and bite him in the ass.

I guarantee there are some parents out there who now say that they never want their daughters to go play for that man, and if it gains enough traction nationally, it could make things even worse for the guy.

I was expecting much worse. I think the reasons that were listed were bs and he called her on it. He also proved that he doesn't respect her or her program. I'm not sure I blame him.

The Director of Operations got a complaint that her coach acted rudely, allowed his players to do so and, more importantly, violated NCAA rules. Her response was to ask the coach if he wanted to handle it? Not good.

Mizzou coach didn't address the ethical accusations.  All he said was, "That's bullshit. We don't want to play you anyway because you suck." I wonder if he stuck his tongue out while he typed the response.
