Wow, the As the Plains burn link makes for stunning reading.  If only a portion of that is true Auburn will be facing far stiffer penalties then USC.  Will be interesting to refer back to once the volcano blows to check for accuracy.

What are the odds on Auburn lashing out and taking a chunk of the college football universe with it?  If outside boosters were involved in / knowledgeable of the recruiting situation and pay for play schemes it seems natural they'd have information on other programs.

After reading the link geaux blue provided it is clear that this is massive clusterfuck and would make a great movie sometime in the future. Is this even close to the M basketball situation in the 90's? I didn't follow M sport then and haven't read about it in detail.

<br>This kind if shady business must be going on at many other athletic departments. I still don't understand why a booster who is rich but not filthy rich would give so much to a football program without expecting any returns. I understand in the case of the super rich like Ross, Glick etc. they have enough money and want to give back to the university.

Can we get another Gene Chizik crying/defending his program, his own integrity, and Cam Newton's lack of involvement in any wrongdoing after this story gets blown up some more? Morally righteous lying from SEC coaches is basically a weekly delight.

At this point Auburn has no choice but to proceed as they have all year.  Denial is their only option.  The ramifications will ensue no matter what they do.  If they sit Newton now, they will be admitting guilt, and will get crushed by the NCAA.  The paper trial leads to Mississippi, not Auburn right now.  All they can do is pray that they were smart enough to cover their behinds for when this does hit the fan.

1. Newton, who is a year older than Mike Martin (two years at Florida, one in junior college in Texas), will go into the NFL draft after this season. He has one year of eligibility left (medical redshirt his second year at Florida), but no way he uses it now.

2. The Mississippi State thing might cause Newton to be declared ineligible. But that's really the worst that can happen there, since it was just talk -- nothing actually happened. The SEC was alerted, but they didn't do anything. It would be nice to see the SEC censured, though.

3. This was a kid with only two years of eligibility left, but he was also as close to a proven commodity (won backup job behind Tebow as a freshman, won national championship in junior college) as you'll find in recruiting. If Cecil went fishing at Auburn, he would have gotten some nibbles. But anything beyond that is going to be tough to prove.

the unrivaled level of Auburns corruption. I know it is a blog, some has to be taken with a grain of salt. But the level of detail & tying each character into this whole thing is WAY TOO DEEP to be completely off. If this stuff is only partially true, Auburn might be playing in the Sun Belt Conference as early as next year. This is ugly and sounds like we could see a lot of details sometime in the near future.

FYI: This is from a good friend who went to South Carolina
