The padding on the goaltenders looks to be about half the size of what is currently being used. The difference in size is comparable to the skinny ice hockey players for nintendo vs. the fat ones (speed aside).

I hope the NHL board of governors pass the another goalie pad reduction this offseason. They reduced the maximum size last offseason.

I watched those games. That was so awesome!
It really was amazing that they'd get behind and find a way to make plays and get back in it.

There need to be exceptions for swearing on national television, and Herb Brooks mid-game speech from the gold medal game is one of them.

But there will never be a greater sporting moment in this Country. The world and media is just too different. This was excellent, and the movie is one of the better sports movies out there, but nothing beats the documentary HBO airs on it. Because fiction can never match reality.

Unfortunately, it's not a sports memory for me -- it happened the year before I was born -- but it still gets to me. What an incredible story. Just amazing.
Last year I visited Lake Placid, and the Olympic arena was open. Nobody was on the ice and nothing was happening in the building (the Ironman Triathlon was happening, so nothing else was going on in town), so the place was silent. I may not have the memory of the event when it happened, but for somebody who loves sports (and I do), the experience of walking into that arena is remarkable. It's nearly religious. I just stood there in the holy silence for a few minutes, imagining the historic bedlam of thirty years prior.
It's also fascinating to see how the facility demands of the Olympics have ratcheted up not just in the last thirty years, but also in the last eighty years. The arenas from both the 1932 and the 1980 Olympics are still standing in downtown LP, and it's interesting to compare them to each other and to current Olympic facilities. Even more awesome: the 1932 speed skating track was an outdoor track, and it's still there and still in use.
What I'm saying is that if you're a fan of Olympic history, LP is well worth a visit. It's a cool town outside that, too, but not many places have the history of two Olympics.

Awesome game but why is every USA team that wins one big game now referred to as "Miracle on Ice 2nd coming"? The last time I checked out roster is filled with "NHL" players. Find me a team of American college kids who can go up against Ovi, Semin, Malkin, Nabokov etc. and we'll talk.
