Seriousy, what the hell were they thinking giving him that contract?

Was he a good player? Yes.

Do I want to be paying him $18 million per year until he is 38 years old? Absolutely not.

Sometimes GMs just don't think about the long term, or anything at all for that matter.

Signing an insane contract? For having a terrible bullpen? For Ted Lilly's injury? At the start of the season Ramirez, Byrd and Soriano, the 4-5-6 hitters, were all batting around .130. That sure doesn't help the get the W. Seems like Jim Hendry is the one to be blamed. His lucky streak came to a screeching halt about 3 years ago.
