Surprised it took this long.
OT: Milton Bradley gone, Cubs turn blame to Soriano
Seriousy, what the hell were they thinking giving him that contract?
Was he a good player? Yes.
Do I want to be paying him $18 million per year until he is 38 years old? Absolutely not.
Sometimes GMs just don't think about the long term, or anything at all for that matter.
You're spot on as far as what the organization was thinking in giving him such a long deal. It's just funny that there are articles already popping up hinting that one individual player is going to receive the brunt of their wrath.
Rob Neyer thinks he's Nostradamus or something
Signing an insane contract? For having a terrible bullpen? For Ted Lilly's injury? At the start of the season Ramirez, Byrd and Soriano, the 4-5-6 hitters, were all batting around .130. That sure doesn't help the get the W. Seems like Jim Hendry is the one to be blamed. His lucky streak came to a screeching halt about 3 years ago.
The Chicago Cubs will alternately suck or be good enough to win the World Series and fail, depending on what the baseball gods deem most likely to cause their fans more pain.
Soriano: 2-3 with an RBI and a run in a win. I, as a Cubs fan, will take that any day of the week.
However, I'd like if we could take those on more days of the week.
