He is a nightmare to my dynasty fantasy football team. I drafted him to replace Jahvid Best on my team if he gets hurt. But do the Lions really need a RB? Teams know they can't run the ball and the Lions still throw for 400 yds every game.
OT - Mikel LeShoure busted for pot twice in a month
Well, he's dumb. But if he really wants to play some day, Ricky Williams has shown that it's still possible.
But Ricky was...you know...good
Shoot.. He seemed like a guy who really had his shit together, what with being so proud of being drafted at all and his positive attitude after the injury. Guess the lions are in need of a RB. Too bad they already have a LaMichael James in Jahvid Best. That would be an exciting 2nd round pick. I don't know what bigger backs are out there that will fall to them in the 2nd. One more concussion and Best is done. Looks like another year with zero run game.
It reminds me of that SNL skit about Michael Vick getting arrested with weed at the airport. Why do these guys have to travel with their weed? Keep it in your house.
please repeat after me:
Charles Rogers is not an appropriate role model
He's a beast. IIRC he had over 5 ypc for a middling big ten team with zero career fumbles. He'll be fine.
Not if he's suspended most of the time.
He didn't go to State.
Roger Goodell don't care.
Seriously, this dude has not played an NFL game yet.
so i give you this rather apropos shot instead.
That's a doob Tommy Chong would be proud of
No, probably not if he keeps it up.
First of all - he's an NFL player. Why do we care if he smokes pot?
Second - how do you get caught twice in a month? It blows my mind (no pun intended) how these athletes get caught with bud. I've been smoking for over a decade and I've never been caught. And I haven't even been smart about it.
I don't mean "we" as in Lions fans. I mean it in the more global sense. Why does Goodell care about it? Every NBA player smokes weed, and they turn a blind eye on it because who cares. I understand that we don't want guys using steroids or getting paid to take someone's head off, but why this? I just think Roger Goodell delves a little too far into the personal lives of these players.
Well! It appears your luck has finally run out. I've been waiting for this day for a long time! My friends from the narcotics team should be arriving soon.
Never, ever in a car. Alright. Privacy of your own home. Then NOBODY cares.
The commissioner cares. He will probably suspend him, at which point it affects the team regardless of your feelings on pot.
Why is he even driving around with a suspended license?
How else do you suggest he transport his delicious, delicious pot from Point A to Point B?
He was in the passenger seat the 2nd time, hopefully no suspension but likely will be.
Damn, I wonder how much he ate. If he had some potent stuff I bet going to jail was INTERESTING.
He must have some chronic pain from his injury to still need his medication.
what's worse than getting busted for pot twice in a month? Getting busted for Burglary twice in a week: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7765279/ryan-leaf-arrested-again-burgl...
lol yeah, this is actually a far sadder story than leshoure (which is just a young man being a dumb young man).
leaf was actually arrested for robbery and posssession the second time, WHILE OUT ON BAIL for doing the exact same thing before. dude has serious issues. i dunno if a jail cell or a psych ward is better for him.
They passed up on to take this guy....
Is Leaf just trying to get caught? Did he really think he was going to pull the 2nd robbery off?
That's the beauty of it, who'd expect it!?
Reggie Harding, a 6'11" former Piston, once put on a mask and held up a convenience store where he was a regular customer.
Larry Harrison can relate:
"So, you're saying the individual was 6'4, 300, and was wearing Michigan athletic gear?"
Was what was memorable.
Salaam won the Heisman Trophy and the Bears drafted him in the first round (not in the top 10, IIRC). In his second year (I believe) he suffered an injury that he was extremely slow to recover from - to the point that the fans/media just wondered why it was taking him so long to return from his injury. It turned out he had developed a serious pot habit; he never got back in full playing shape, and never made an impact in the NFL again.
Hopefully there's a different outcome for LeShoure. If he can get back to full health, I think he can be a really good NFL running back.
The absolute stupidity of some athletes never ceases to amaze me. All they have to do is watch their bodies and NOT injest drugs for oh....say....about 5 years and then they'd have enough money to do whatever they want for the rest of their lives. Not that hard really.
I don't know which situations make me laugh more. The "I simply must do drugs and I must do them now" group of idiot athletes or the "I must spend the bazillions of dollars I have on an entourage of 35 people, golden dog tags with diamond encrusted collars and 47 gold-plated Bentley's" thereby assuring themselves of bankrupcy within hours of their career ending.
If they can father 6-8 kids from 6-8 different women WHILE doing drugs and spending bazillions of dollars on crap it's a trifecta of hillarious in my book.
Although he's clearly a lunatic, I have the most respect for Reggie Williams when it comes to athletes and drugs. He did exactly what you say - told people he's going to do drugs and it he can't play football because of it, so be it. If you're an addict or have some other flaw, own it! Otherwise, change.
Um.....I think you mean Ricky Williams...cough...cough.
I wont get docked a million points for correcting you now will i?
Ooops! My bad.
/I'm the winner!
Give him a break. It was medicinal marijuana... you know, the kind they prescribe for tendon ruptures.
I never really understood the whole weed craze. If I wanted to go kill braincells, I'd just go listen to 97.1. Doesn't cost me money and it's not stinky (unless it's the 97.1 in columbus).
The NFL is retarded, banning steroids, or cocaine or meth, or heroin is understandable, but weed? Its an herb. Its delicious and it doesn't hurt anybody. Say what you want but I don't think this is that big of a deal.
It is a big deal. He's being paid to be in peak physical condition and perform at a high level. Something tells me that the munchies and a dwindling lung capacity don't go hand in hand with Lions plans for their RB.
When you're high as shit you can see the holes open up way before the holes open up. It's a nice tool to have as a RB. Trust me, I've gained about a million yards playing Madden. Weed helps. I wouldn't be surpised is Mikel ends up beating Emmett's record.
You could be right. I guess we'll just have to put up with a few unecessary spin moves that were meant to be hurdles or stiff arms.
It really doesn't do that much to you. The Gover-nator smoked all damn day and he was ripped as shit. I don't know what his 40 time was, but a bunch of NFL guys are just hulking dudes.
Actually, the most recent studies (and this was a JAMA article with the research performed at the leading centers for medical research) have shown that chronic marijuana use has a negligible effect on lung capacity. Small increases in lung capacity were actually shown among heavy pot smokers, with the researchers suggesting the practice of inhaling deeply and holding smoke in actually functioned to train the lungs to accept more air.
Good thing we re-signed Kevin smith. I just hope the lions figured out his issues and this wasn't a TOTAL surprise.
Two busts in a short period of time? For the same thing?
Cue the voice of Red Forman: "YOU'RE A DUMBASS!"
That goes for you too, Mr. Ryan (Sweet) Leaf.
According to Anwar Richardson (@AnwarRichardson on Twitter):
"#Lions RB Mikel Leshoure did not show up for his arraignment today and a bench warrant has been issued for his arrest"
I don't know who Anwar Richardson is, but there's that. Take it for what it's worth, I guess.
I don't think I would ever personally go that route, but apparently there are sources to consult as to the effects of doing so...
This guy might know, if you're interested. I am guessing these are the sorts of experts one would go to if you had to dispose of your stash in a hurry.
Just more proof that money can't buy you intelligence.
Damn it. I was expecting this dude to live up to the 2nd round billing. I am all for pot if that's your thing (I would rather drink personally), but for sure don't roll around with it. I mean for fucks sake. That's like drunk driving. There is just no reason for it. So stupid. Hopefully he finds the field and doesn't get suspended.
I mean, this problem is complicated in general.
Obviously, Mike is a selfish man. He's probably not real bright. He's probably pretty stubborn. Traits that make him a great running back!
Everyone knows that pot smoking is fairly harmless. Mike is part of that everyone statement.
Stubborn - harmless drug - time on his hands - thinks he's getting away with it - not real smart - unlucky - Oops again
Maybe it's not that complicated after all!
LeShoure really needs to watch this video on how to hide your stash.
Its both a big deal and not a big deal. The actual offense isn't a big deal at all,to most open-minded people.
The problem is the lack of maturity and selfishness. Part of his job is to be ready to play, and violating rules makes him actively fail at that job. He is being paid handsomely to do a few things - one of those is to not break the law or league rules. Putting his desire to smoke above his job exhibits his priorities.
This is really too bad. He's a guy I was rooting for, and not just because I'm a Lions fan. It's too bad when people throw their life away for drugs. I hope he turns it around.
The Lions will have to face the fact that RB is once again a need. Best and Smith can't be counted on to stay on the field, and LeShoure can't be counted on to stay off the grass.
See what I did there?
No serious athlete, amateur or professional, should smoke anything purely from the standpoint of lung function. As far as the notion that pot is a completely benign substance with no negative effects whatsoever? I smoked enough of it back in the '70s—when the garden-variety stuff we could get our hands on was far weaker than what is available today—to know that notion is hogwash.
That's not to say that our laws regarding pot aren't crazy in many ways and shouldn't be changed, but that's different from thinking it doesn't have any negative effects on people.
Leshoure appears to be just another physically-talented knucklehead who will smoke (and probably drink) his potential away. He's just giving up a spot to some other athlete who is able to control himself.
From the study Needs references: "... but marijuana smokers are still at risk for chronic bronchitis, which means they tend to have increased cough and mucus."
The Zook falls not far from the seed.
Come on, he missed his entire rookie season due to injury, he should be afforded some pot use without charges.
