OT: Mike Pettine named HC of the Cleveland Browns
Well it's official. My Cleveland Browns have finally named a new HC for 2014 and it's none other than the Bufallo Bills DC Mike Pettine. The executive staff for the Browns waited one month, allowed virtually all the available DC & OC candidates to find jobs elsewhere, and then hired a guy they could've hired 24 hours after firing Chud.
Strongly rumored to be Pettine's OC is none other than Cam Cameron and no word yet on possible DC and the DC will be the Bills Linebacker coach (presser going on now). I'm guessing Pettine got the job for no other reason than he was the first candidate they interviewed that didn't turn them down.

Where do I send flowers? Or does the family prefer a donation to a charity of choice?

That you are excited about the hire.

Look....I'm a Browns fan so I'm used to crushing dissapointment and total front office failure. It's not like we're an elite NFL franchise that can go out and get the "pick of the litter" so-to-speak and bring a Jim Caldwell-type rockstar head coach to town.

When I heard the news this morning I wondered how long it would take mGrowOld to start a thread pissing and moaning about the hire.

Pissing and moaning, the life blood of any true Browns or Lions fan.
It really is amazing that these two teams still have loyal fans such as yourself. I quit the Lions when Barry did and haven't looked back since, I commend you in your loyality.

There could be a direct connection between DET/CLE sucking ass since the 60's (except small pockets by both organization) and the large number CFB fans in both states. But then how do we explain PSU with the Steelers in state?

Saw earlier that his daughter posted a tweet saying that she was excited that her dad might get a chance to be a head coach, even if it's "just the browns." Thought that was pretty funny.

I can't wait until next year's Cleveland Browns head coach search.
January 23rd, 2014 at 4:45 PM ^
Don't sell the Browns front office short, there could be another search this year still.

Never heard of him.

As a Browns fan, I'm so glad to see that the organization hired a coach who was probably 8th on their wishlist. I foresee the front office conducting another coaching search in a year or two. Failure is the only thing that the Browns are good at.

Cleveland.com also reporting that Pettine to be fired in a day or two.

Fuck Cleveland.

This is OT. Waaaaah.
/s (obviously)
We could have had Chip Kelly, instead we have this clownshow. Can we put Haslam in prison yet?
January 23rd, 2014 at 4:55 PM ^
No candidate wants the job. This guy is taking the job just because it allows him to be a head coach for a year or two before he gets fired. There's no question that Haslam, Banner and Lombardi are truly the Three Stooges.

WOOOOPS.....and thank you.
Upvote for not downvoting me for violating the OT rule and instead giving a heads up so I could fix.
FWIW I think it was Haslam that ordered the kill on Chud.

Wanted to get in the assist before the whiny bitches showed up.
Cleveland Frowns thinks the hit was an imperial tantrum - remember, it was Haslam's dad that built the Pilot empire, and Jimmy was born with the silver spoon in his mouth. I still think it's hilarious that the anointed successor to the horrors of Shurmurball was canned after doing as well as anyone could have expected in year 1.

Not sure what it means yet but my 27 year old son is listening to the presser live and said he LOVES this guy. Said he comes off as a complete "bad-ass" and is saying absolutely all the right things right now.
I reminded him so did Brady Hoke.

But looking at his results on the field...they aren't so great. Defense gave up an average of 23.81 points per game last year and he fielded one of the worst run defenses in the league. A high point for Buffalo was its pass defense, which ranked 4th in the NFL for yards per game. I don't know anymore, man.

The bills were so bad on defense before this guy and I'm sure they will be terrible following him.
I think if the browns do well on offense they might be in contention in the north.

I'm from Buffalo too and it is a bummer to see us lose our DC and LB coach. Our D was actually looking like it was becoming a strength. If our offense was anything at all the D would have looked fantastic.

You can take the Browns out of Clevland (Art), but you can't take the Cleveland out of the Browns.

That one cut deep. Have an upvote for good writing.

They can spin this anyway they want. This guy has been available since day 1. Every other candidate was either hired already, or said no.
I will say I liked him in his press conference
