40 schools including the entire Big XII, SEC, and Pac 12, and also Central Michigan who they play in 2015. To me this is quite ridiculous. I can understand not going anywhere in the Big XII, but FORTY schools? C'mon Gundy.
OT: Mike Gundy rules out FORTY schools for Wes Lunt
He can do that, cuz he's a man.
Three fourths of this inaccurate! It's fiction
Is inaccurate. Irony
Not actually ironic.
The irony lies in the fact that I misquoted a statement regarding inaccuracy thus rendering my statement inaccurate.
People love to point out when things deemed ironic aren't actually ironic. This is done overly so and irony basically has no acceptable use anymore. Fucking Alanis morrisette.
I'm no big bad english major, but I'd say that is a pretty good example of irony IMO.
I'm guessing at some point someone high up the food chain at OKSt will tell Gundy to lay off and let the guy play where he wants (sans Big 12 schools). This is embarrassing.
As soon as a 4* recuit brings this up with Gundy and sounds weary about it the limit will magicly go down to just Big 12.
Is that kid still stuck at FSU?
EDIT: Oh yeah, and as a commenter on the linked article so finely put it, "Gundy is a TURD."
"Son, we care deeply about your future. It's just that... we care about ours more."
Welcome to Cartman's CBAA.
Actually, EA Sports has exclusive rights to the CBAA.
So Mike Gundy thinks the Big Ten isn't as much of a threat as the Big 12, SEC, and PAC 12. Can't blame him.
He's has quite a bit of interest in Illinois and has visited there a few times already so this may not even affect him. He could very well end up in the Big Ten.
40 schools though seems quite crazy. I can understand teams in the Big 12 as well as future opponents from other conferences but otherwise from there it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
According to this article from SBNation from last week - HERE - Lunt is poised to choose between Illinois and Louisville, two of the remaining 66% or so that are on the Mike Gundy Official Allowed List. Wes Lunt would probably give Illinois a fairly decent stretch at QB, and he might even be able to fare better than Scheelhaase in that offense.
You consider the PAC 12 more of a threat than the Big 10?
Have you seen Big10 play lately?
Does this mean everyone in the B1G gets to lay in the weeds along side with Dantonio?
Has to go through life with the "Mike Hunt" jokes.
does this it feels like jilted bride syndrome
Gundy might have looked bad to the media with his "I'm a man" rant, but it was something he could easily turn into a positive when recruiting, as proof he has his players' backs. With this move, I think he has just guaranteed that he won't be there for much more than the three years with no decent recruits that it will take to turn his team into a tomato can.
Gundy's rant was pretty funny, but I don't think it actually made him look that bad. He was sticking up for one of his players. Definitely crazy and funny, but I think most people respected his intentions.
I recently introduced the lady to the wonders that are crazy football coach pressors. We've covered your Gundy and your Mora. I don't think she's ready for the surreal beauty of a Les Miles pressor just yet, but I was reintroduced to this guy:
Kevin Borseth had an absolutely amazing presser rant while he was the WBB coach at Michigan.
Oh yeah! I had totally forgotten about that one. Thanks!
One of my favorites was from Bobby Ross when he was coaching the Lions. He went on some rant about how he's a good coach, but the team just sucks so bad there's nothing he could possibly do about it. I've looked and looked, but I don't know if video of that pressor exists any more (I did find a transcript, so it defintely happened). I bet that was a fun Monday morning in the locker room.
We need more dogs!
There should be a rule that conferences can only limit within conference. What does ok st have against the mac
These restrictions are ridiculous. Mike Gundy could do this as his last move as OSU's coach and then be coaching at another BCS school tomorrow. I can perhaps understand restricting a few schools, but 40? WTF Mike Gundy, WTF
Mike Gundy is a man! He is 40!
because the time he supposedly "stood up for" one of his players against a newspaper's criticism and made the famous "I'm 40" rant was a complete sham designed to create the effect that he's willing to look crazy to defend his players. There were some enlightening follow-ups with the actual player at issue who said Gundy basically screwed him over repeatedly during his career at OSU, and constructed the "I'm 40" rant specifically to make it look as though he had his players' backs. If I could keep my eyes open at this point, I'd do some Googling and find the cites, but suffice to say Gundy isn't as bad as this Lunt episode makes him look. He's much worse.
Lunt is from Illinois and Big Ten country, so I don't really think this hurts the kid in any significant way. Most kids who transfer seem to end up transferring closer to home, and the schools immediately to the west of Illinois are generally in the Big 12 and an obvious no-no. The list of 40 schools probably looks worse than it actually is.
I know I'm being really naive here, but when is the NCAA going to do the right thing (it would be a first, I know) and change these policies?
Right now, when a player signs his LOI:
- The coach can leave whenever he wants
- The coach can oversign, then cut the kid if he turns out to not be as good as was previously thought
- The coach can limit the kid's transfer options, if the kid decides to transfer
I guess I'm just tired of the NCAA being a worthless piece of crap.
