This is typical Francesa. He's completely full of himself and thinks he knows everything and doesn't need to do any research. I grew up in CT and my dad listened to WFAN all the time in the car so I've heard plenty of crap from this guy. You would think that since he covers/talks about the Yankees every day, he would do his due diligence on their playoff opponent so he could pass what he learned on to his listeners. Instead you get "well I've never even seen the kid pitch."

I don't know who Mike Francesa is. I assume he is some NY sports talk radio guy (duh from the link), but he has got to be only regionally relevant.

He borders on nationally relevant. He was Mike from the Mike and the Mad Dog show which I'm sure you've at least heard of. He does a weekly NFL preview show that is simulcast throughout the country.

I know there are some radio guys that are national. Such as "Mike and Mike", Colin Cowherd, Jim Rome, Dan Patrick, etc.
Maybe "Mike and the Mad Dog" is from before my time?
Regardless, those weekly NFL prevew shows are usually on Saturday and/or Sunday. The audience is "road trip" travelers and truck drivers. When it comes to sports talk radio, there is weekday (esp. drive time) and then a huge drop off. Kind of like a BCS school and a Div. II school. I mean, I guess GVSU is on the borderline of national relevance for football teams, but I don't think of that as nationally relevant.

It's entirely possible that I have overestimated Francesa's relevance but like JerseyBlue said below, he is regarded as one of the co-god fathers of sports talk radio. Mike and the Mad Dog dominated the NY drive time slot for 20 years.

I give him props for being the co-godfather of sports talk radio. That being said he's getting more arrogant and condescending with age. He talks down to callers who dare disagree with him. I like the station in the summer more when he"s always on vacation. The fill in hosts are much better. I live in Jersey and even I can't take his accent. It's Ivan Nova, not Ivan Nover. Douche.

Radio hosts are always condescending. They have the power so every time their opinions or statements get challenged they can always cut off the caller and have the final say.

on the 2 year anniversary of Game 163....Please, Tigers...Beat New York.
No matter what, it's been a hell of ride this year. I got to attend 12 games. I saw Justin pitch live 6 times. Twice he almost threw a no-hitter, and another time he struck out 14 Diamondbacks. I saw the defending World Champion Giants in person. I saw little ole' Ramon and his "Sneaky power" hit a walk-off. I watched tonight's starter Doug Fister pitch for Detroit and against it. I watched Miggy win a batting title right before my very eyes, all the while brigtening our days with light tower shots that seemed to get lost in the eyes of the Tiger atop the left field scoreboard. I watched Austin Jackson who seemed to run down every ball hit within a stadiums reach of him. I watched Jose Valverde with my breath held, all while he managed to not blow a single save all season. I watched the Tigers be the cause of other teams in the Central Division implode instead of doing it ourselves.
And here it is...9 innings to decide our own fate after 166 previous games. It all comes down to perhaps the biggest trade deadline move our team has made since 1987. It's time to right the wrong of the way that 1987 finished. It's as if we've come full circle. Doug Fister can make the memory of the John Smoltz-Doyle Alexander trade die forever, all right in front of the very same Smoltz. He can make the memory of that fateful Game 163 collapse of two years ago go away forever. But no matter what, don't ever forget Detroit. Always a Tiger.
