OT - Michigan State "the ultimate cow college" according to the New York Times.

There is a nice little fluff piece in the Sunday Times about the dairy on campus at MSU that procudes ice :

While describing how Blueberry Pie went from being their most popuar flavor to the least when they added yellow coloring and renamed it Maize-N-Berry they refer to MSU as "the ultimate cow college".

It's actually a nice little article, though I imagine that little reference is going to lead to some hurt feelings in East Lansing.

They mention Babcock Dairy on the Campus of Wisconsin, which makes some good ice cream as well.  If you ever find yourself at the Terrace in Madison and you're not in the mood for beer give the ice cream a try.

I come here to remind everyone here that UM football has been a losing piece of shit for the last 10years. All while your rival at OSU has been the shining beacon of of pride for the Big Ten. I must say I enjoy very much the opportunity to come here and remind everyone just exactly what your program is and how everyone in the country outside of AA sees it, as a conference embarrassment. That's why I visit.

I hate the implication that having agriculture programs makes you some kind of joke. Maybe it's my Nebraska roots, maybe it's the fact that I enjoy food and wine, maybe I'm just crazy. I may poke fun at MSU for lots of things but this would not be one of them.

Absolutely true.  I don't understand either why people look down on agriculture as a legitimate area of academic study.  Is it because it is too "practical"?  If that's your reason, how is it different from engineering?  Or is it because people look down on farming as a profession?  If that's your reason, maybe you should trying growing all of your own food for awhile.

Figure I might as well post this here. An old co-worker of mine - an MSU alum - was on a flight to Hong Kong last night. He asked one of the flight attendants if the pilots could radio in and find out the score of the Michigan State/Oregon game. Two hours later, the flight attendant brought him a print out, quite pleased that she could provide this valuable piece of  info the passenger had asked for. Except that it was the Michigan/Oregon State score. He posted a picture of it on Facebook, so it was real. He said he didn't have the heart, after the effort, to tell the flight attendant it was the wrong game. All the comments were as you would expect - no respect, etc, etc.

It offers one flavor for every Big Ten team, from mainstays like Ohio State (Buckeye Blitz, which is peanut-butter-flavored) and Northwestern (Wildcat Crunch) to newer members like Maryland (Terrapin Toffee Twirl) and Nebraska (Husker’s Sweet Corn).

I suppose that's another reason to mind Maryland less - toffee twirl actually sounds like it could be pretty good indeed. I wonder if there is a flavor for Rutgers and if is currently under indictment.
