OT: Michigan makes cover of SI (not for work)

While the basketball team may have to wait for another week to make the cover, Michigan and MGoBlog mascot Kate Upton is on the cover of the SI Swimsuit Issue for 2013.

Congrats to Kate, and another unofficial title for Michigan athletics.

1) Ads to some extent are based on your browsing history (See StephenRKass's story about getting Victoria's Secret ads after his daughter uses his computer), so they might not be so explicit depending on what kinds of sites you/your family members visit. A lot of other sports sites will include gratuitous semi-nudity in "related articles", but if you only visit MGoBlog, that's not as much a problem.

2) The only reason I use AdBlock Plus on MGoBlog is because I'm an MGoAddict and often check the site in public places. So for a lot of us, the blog is "clean" unless someone posts something like this.

My daughter's in the Navy now, so all her ads don't pop up. (She started boot camp at Great Lakes two days ago.) However, ads for her preferences did show up for a while, and I could definitely tell when she'd been using my laptop a lot. High heels, Victoria's Secret, Gilly Hick's . . . ads for all of them came up. It wasn't even bonding time, as we didn't really chat about her clothing preferences. That would have been uncomfortable.

Regardless, as much as I appreciate Kate Upton, I always appreciate a heads up before I open a post, as regards photos, etc. Thanks!

Very hard transition, especially for mom. However, it is a good choice for our daughter. We can't afford to send her to Michigan, and she doesn't want to ratchet up endless loans. $180k toward college costs when she's finished with the Navy looks pretty good, right now.

There is definitely some powerful economic incentive to join the service, and the lessons you learn therein are worth just as much. But a tough transition. After graduating high school, my sister recently left the country to serve on a mission for a while, and it's definitely hard on the family. But it's also a really great opportunity, and those are the times when you grow up the most.

However, we're in the fortunate position of being only an hour away (western suburbs,) and my sisters both live in Evanston, which is even closer. Her A school and C schools will all be at Great Lakes after basic, so we'll get to see her a fair amount in the next two years. That should make the transition a bit easier for both her and my wife.

I don't work in an office currently, but when I did, surfing a sports blog during work was as much of an offense as looking at the cover of the Swimsuit Edition, so I don't see the difference.

Either way, I can't access MGoBlog at the office (dang filters), so it doesn't affect me directly, but there are a lot of people who do go on it at work. Of course, it's probably better that I can't go on it at work, as I'd probably lose a lot of productivity if I did.

You realize though that she's on the cover of SI Swimsuit Edition, so it's probably not just the board who is infatuated with her, right?  Generally, girls who look "real basic" don't make the covers of popular swimsuit magazines.

Look - if you want to say "she's not my type" or "I'm more attacted to a different type of girl" that's fine.  Personally, I don't think Beyonce is all that, but I know many do and I can certainly see why they think so, it's just not my taste.

Kate Upton's not your ideal woman?  Got it.  But you took it too far to be believable.

It means she will now not sleep with me.  There are a lot of women who have not appeared on the cover of SI who have slept with me, but somehow all of the women who have are a big 0-fer in the "sleeping with WolvinLA" category.

You might try to say "but I doubt she would have slept with you even if she wasn't on this cover" but the truth is we'll never know.

I think that's part of what makes her so attractive. She's beautiful, and yet seems so normal. She's not an uptight, anorexic skeleton like so many models are.

The Michigan fandom sure doesn't hurt.
