OT - Michigan Helmet

Submitted by backusduo on
Community, I'm in need of some advice from "the community" before I make a purchase from a website I have never used before. I've been looking to purchase a couple authentic Michigan Helmets, and have found a source that w/ shipping comes out to about $150 a helmet. Great price from what I've seen. They say they have been 100% refurbished with all graphics, pads and straps. If they don't smell like guy's locker room this could be a pretty good deal. Has anyone purchased from this website before and could relay their experience, or does anyone have a better source for purchasing an authentic helmet that is wearable (though just for display purposes :)? Thank you for the help. http://gamedayfanz.zoovy.com/product/RE-MICHIGAN/MICHIGAN-WOLVERINES-Au…

$150 is way too much for a refurb. I got a brand new authentic Schutt on eBay for $200. It was a few years ago and don't remember the sellers name. The one problem I have noticed lately is that all of the Shutt's now come with a bar on the inside so you can't put it on. I'm not sure if they are removable. Just keep checking eBay, you'll find a better deal.

If you're looking for a reputable source, I highly recommend Gridiron Memories. They're not game worn, but their products are spot on.

My son purchased one of these last fall. They probably did not start their lives as U of M helmets - they have been refurbished (ie. cleaned up and painted U of M colors). After this process they are "authentic" looking - which is more than enough for most fans. It was for my son. No one has ever seen his autograph filled helmet at his apartment and asked, "Yeah, but is it a real one?" It is certainly a bargain compared to a NCAA Revolution Authentic at $195. I say go for it.

I can’t locate the website currently, but when I ordered mine I was able to have the company replace and/or install the facemask of my choosing. Just a thought to pass on if and when you order to see if it’s an option. For what it’s worth I went with Woodson’s facemask, and mine is an Authentic Schutt Helmet and came without the bar installed. Make sure that “Michigan” is listed on the name plate in the front as well.

First, all I saw was "I'm in need of some advice from "the community" and then "I want something I can strap on for gameday." Whew. Just curious though... wouldn't it be more authentic if it DID smell like a locker-room?

I got mine here: http://www.realstuffsports.com/ They're located outside of Detroit. They even have the facemask "Shockblocker" clips that you can buy to customize like what they wear in game. Click on the "Facemask Clips and Hardware" link on your left. You can also order whatever facemask you want for extra. You can call them and have them remove the safety hardware inside before they ship them. They'll charge tax so that'll suck, but it's brand new authentic.
