if the coaches dressed up like this and painted their costumes maize and blue
OT - Michigan Gear You'd Like to See Again
Exactly what Nike did when they re-released Woodson, George, LT, and so on five or so years ago but all Michigan:
Braylon, Brady, Woodson, Biakabutuka, Ford, Sheridan
All the classics.
I've almost pulled the trigger on one from eBay so many times, if I could just think of a place I could legitimately wear it...
Yeah, those were legit back in elementary school for me. Michigan, Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, Anaheim Mighty Ducks...etc. Can't beat the velcro pouch in the front - the best part.
Wow... I had all the same, except for the Cowboys. How could you be a Dallas and a SanFran fan back in the 90s? That's crazy. I also had a Colorado Rockies one. Purple and black... it was awesome.
I just had a Michigan one, rich boy.
a cool kid in the 90's unless you had a starter pullover and a pair of LA Lights
Never had lights...just pumps.
forgot about the pumps. I could get net with five pumps.
I had a fucking Logo Athletic jacket.
Logo Athletic was awesome for like a year. Starter, for sure. Bulls. And Air Jordans. Obv. Also, of course, the Fab 5 and 89 team unis in basketball are outstanding, and frankly both iconic, to me. So yeah, those, but we know the school can't/won't officially acknowledge that team Fab Five team because, well, dang it. They can't. But...they did wear the same unis the year AFTER CWebb left, when it was still Juwan, Jimmy, Ray, Jalen, etc. So they could wear those, technically. It would be bold.
I had a ProPlayer jacket. Two, actually.
They were on sale at TJ Maxx.
Rich? Ha. I only got a new one when the previous one was destroyed. But, I think I went through four of them during the course of my childhood.
My red and white Red Wings starter jacket was beloved for all of 2nd and 3rd grade...too bad I looked like a hobo as soon as the snow turned into muddy slush.
I throw that on everytime I have to plow the drive way. No matter how cold it may be, it's not stopping the starter jacket
I only had the Michigan and Charlotte Hornets jackets. Charlotte was purple and teal!
Everyone at my school had the Charlotte Hornets starter jacket. The only reason I could think of as to why there were so many hornets jackets is because my school's mascot was the yellow jackets. Still, it's Michigan.
This is the one that I had except Michigan and not Jaromiresque
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!! I still have mine from 4th grade. Believe it or not it still fits, albeit a little snug. Those were the days. Every kid had a starter jacket. I might start wearing mine again, see if I can bring the trend back. haah
Wow mine probably didnt last more than 2 years. I wore the thing everyday and to play whatever sport I was playing at the time. Hockey and football don't bode well for that cross stitching on the pure utter filth that were the sleeves. The sheer awesomeness one experience from wearing this starter jacket was awesome. Not to mention hiding ur pogs and slammer in the velcro front pocket was essential in school.
Classic! Pogs...what a brilliant idea. Cardboard - fucking cardboard (!!!) made someone rich.
I still have no FING idea how to play that game. All I wanted to do was slam that slammer down as hard as I can. Y would I ever beg my mom to buy me that?
haahah pogs. This is definitely bringing back some great memories. I actually had an anaheim ducks jacket that I would wear when I was outside playing. I didnt care if that one got dirty. I kept my Michigan jacket as clean as possible. I remember my first time wearing the Michigan jacket was when I attended the 97 Michigan/Penn St game in happy valley. My dad bought it for me a couple days before we went to the game. A new jacket and a Michigan win=great weekend!
when I was in elementary school and middle school. Those were the days.
Got one for Christmas that I got to wear for a whole week. First day back to school some punk ass kid on the bus grabbed me by my jacket, yanked and tore a big hole in it. Happened right when we got to school so he was able to take off and not feel my wrath. Got some paper clips to fix it. I still wore it but it never felt right.
I bought one of these bad boys in Saginaw Michigan in 1995!! I still bust it out for games. Priceless.
nice picture find.
edit...the Starter jacket. I replied to the Starter jacket.
Hell yes...i honestly cant believe they dont still make these
Two days ago, I saw a hipster chick rocking a hornets starter jacket in the library. My roommate and I just stared then laughed as we walked away. Not sure how I feel about starter jackets becoming the new hipster thing.
No such thing, at least not in this universe.
I wish they would make something without the giant ass logo on it. I bought the "official" T online at the beginning of this year and the logo is right in the middle and about as big as the letters in Michigan.
I'd very much like to see another Heisman.
AFCA National Championship Trophy but, to each his own.
with the simple blue block lettering "MICHIGAN" across the front. They were as popular as blue jeans in my high school, and I grew up in East Lansing.
The winged helmet lamp I had when I was 10. Wish I kept that shit - it would drive my wife nuts.
I can't believe I got rid of mine.
I do still have a candy jar from the original Big Ten (pre-PSU).
They do still sell those hats you're talking about, flat bill and all.
I found a sweet New Era 59 Fifty fitted skinny-M hat in M-Den. It is officially on my Christmas list.
I've been looking for this hat for so long... I finally found it on Moe's Sports site and recently got it. I'm very happy with my Cyber Tuesday sale purchase.
Some people even used to bend them.
something about that hat doesn't fit me right. Of course i have a huge head, but those hats have a unique shape.
Why did we move the prediction back to 2012?
2011 Go Blue!
/unless you mean the actual date of the game?
The Nike Quarter-zip windbreakers. I love windbreaker pullovers but the new Adidas ones just aren't doing it for me.
I had a blue hat with stitched block M, brown suede bill, and brown leather strap. It was awesome.
Bring back BO's helmet stickers! Why did the team stop using them?
Maybe im alone but I hate the helmet stickers and am happy we don't have them. Resembles the truck drivers way to much.
They especially don't work on Michigan's helmets. Distracts from a classic look.
More likely is that Carr dropped the stickers to take the emphasis off of individual achievement and onto the team concept.
call me crazy but i love (besides his hair) the microfleece pullover gerg used to wear, just had the M on the chest and some piping down the arms. haven't seen it on mden this year sadly
Back when Nike did the gear, they did a maize t shirt with THE VICTORS in the Princeton font. Adidas seems to prefer HAIL. Bring back THE VICTORS on our shirts.
and my 1.5 year old son saw the M on the left arm and said "M"
My parenting is on track.
Fab five style basketball shorts with the big M.
They absolutely need to birng those unis back and keep them for good. Too bad all college hoops teams now have HUGE shorts.
That photo is on the cover of Mitch Albom's "Fab Five" (I highly recommend it. At the time I was reading it about 2 years ago, I took a trip to the mall to buy some sneaks. Lo and behold, Nike had brought back those very kicks our boys are wearing in that photo. Of course, I bought a pair. They look much cooler on the Fab 5 than they do on me, but still a very cool item of Michigan gear.
While I'm at it, they need to bring back anything Nike.
I wrote a book report on that book...every year of junior high and twice in high school.
I still have my yellow (er, maize) basketball shorts from around 1997. Can't find a good picture, but traylor is wearing them below, with the big block M on the sides, similar to the above, but without the white trim everywhere. We always wished they'd sell the white ones, but only blue/maize were available.
Also, in the course of searching for a pic of these shorts, I came across the roster of our 1998-99 team. Wow, talk about a dearth of talent! Nothing against any of the other guys, but Louis Bullock was the only Big Ten caliber player on that roster.
ummm... since my first attempt copied someone else because i'm stupid, how about...
Only if I can get a matching beardnet
I work at Wayne State (on the Detroit Medical Center campus) and I've seen a few surgeons/nurses who routinely rock this. I've also seen navy scrubs with the block M on the top and bottom.
my Michigan tiger-striped pants. Those things were awesome and hideous all at the same time.
Edit: ZL mentioned them above...the Zubaz pants!
I would like to see........
2011 Big Ten Champions sweatshirt XL
2011 National Champions t-shirt for everyone in MGoBlog land!
Kenny went home early
Blue Letter Material Block M in the middle.
Love mine, need a new one after 14 years.
But the Script "Michigan" Maize tournament hockey jerseys.
I like the current "Rangers" style, I own the Maize Block M... but I love these script Michigan ones
I still have a '34' Turco script Michigan jersey. If not for the badass throwbacks, I'd be rocking it for the Big Chill. But hey, I'm a slave to fashion.
I always wanted one of those maize silk-like Nike jerseys that we wore back in the 96 and 98 years. I would really like a #9 Brendan Morrison jersey..... sigh...
I do indeed have a Brendan jersey, maize-- but the minimal Nike blue thin stripes with the white inside edition, not the script dazzle. Still relatively sweet though, if I do say so.
License plate frame. I have seen them for other schools- nice heavy brass or brushed nickel; ours are pretty cheap.
Couldn't agree more. I've been through 3 different plate frames this year and they've all made my ride look like a piece of shit.
Really? I have had one like this, by this company, for 7 years, and it still looks great- no chipping or anything. I got it at Ulrich's.
Okay, wow, I just looked for 10 minutes and can't find it online. Well, stainless steel (I think) with maize and blue paint/coating. I think they still sell them there, in Ann Arbor.
If it's stainless I'd happily throw you a little extra cash to UPS one down to South Carolina
Two things I sincerely miss from my college days ('96-2000):
Steve and Barry's had awesome and cheap simple t-shirts (just "MICHIGAN"). No logos and cool colors (faded maize, faded green, red, etc).
I have a Columbia long sleeve shirt with "University of Michigan" and the university seal in an awesome faded olive color with white lettering. I think I bought it at Ulrichs.
I hate adidas/nike logos and although I love my blue with maize lettering shirt, I'm not a guy who would wear a primarily maize shirt. I love the faded/retro look, and haven't been able to find these types of simple shirts anywhere, even in Ann Arbor. I would be forever indebted to anyone who can help me replace my old ones (ripped and with pit stains, though I still wear them occassionally because I love them so much).
Brand new National Championship gear in football, basketball, baseball, and hockey.
Don't forget, men's soccer!
I liked the hockey jerseys a lot better when the shoulder patches were the university seal rather than the block M and the hockey sticks. I feel our University's seal is very underused for marketing purposes - academic and athletic.
I want to get my hands on a "skinny" block M hat. Bo made that skinny block M so iconic. Even though I do like the lighter maize color, I would like to see more of the darker traditional maize too.
Before the State game this year, I ran up to Family Fare to grab a few thing for a potluck we were having at work. The employees were allowed to wear any clothing that represented their favorite team that day. I saw quite a few # 7 and 20 jerseys, but my jaw damn near hit the floor when I saw the young lady collecting the shopping carts rocking THE # 21 jersery; made by Champion no less, in pristine condition. I asked her where she got it from since it was obvious she didn't buy it recently. She told me it was her dad's, and that he got when he was a student at Michigan. She told me that he was going to let her have when she goes off to Michigan next fall. I told her that I envied both her and her dad because he went to Michigan, she was going to Michigan, and they both had a kick ass jersey.
The old skinny block M hats are available at the Great Divide up here in Flint. Pretty cool looking, complete with the short bill.
The '94 GLI throwback hockey jerseys
Script maize hockey jerseys
Thought the same thing about the '94 throwbacks when I saw the title of the thread. Wish I'd gotten one back then.
"Big Ten Football Champions"
I'd like a letterman's jacket, kinda like what Denard wears now. The natural tan leather sleeves, block M on the front left chest, script block letters on the back. That'll work.
You can get them at MDen.
I'd like to see these jerseys make a comeback...
The current uni's are lame. (The floor is pathetic too.)
Go back to the Fab 5 era Maze uni's with the proud block M.
We're Michigan, be proud of it. Chris Webber does not own those uni's, we don't have to hide them.
I really miss the old away football jerseys with the M's on the sleeves too
Anyone know where I could get a similar looking jersey as they wore in 1938-1940? I've been wanting to make an old school Tom Harmom jersey. I've been trying to find a plain navy blue top, then I can stitch on the numbers from there.
I'm searching for a pic online, but having no luck. I looked everywhere for my old hat. Can't even find a picture of it online. My dad bought it for me around 1995. It was a gray wool looking hat with a big nike swoosh on the front. I think it said Michigan on the bill or maybe on back part I really can't remember. It was one badass hat though and I hope to find it. Wish me luck. Did anyone else have one?
I have over 20 UM ball caps and this is one of my favorites bought back in mid 90s. Good luck w your search.
