OT: Miami upsets #8 Florida

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Unranked Miami Hurricanes go into Gainesville and pull off the upset 69-67.

Miami was down 15 points and came back to beat them.

Jon Horford was second for the Gators in scoring with 17 points and had 3 three-pointers(!)

Horford held off his family, who were apparently on him to transfer, since he was a freshman.  He finally got tired of telling them no and transferred somewhere he felt he could assemble a legitimate NBA resume this year.

I wish him well.  It's not like he went to OSU or EL.

SEC is a 2 team conference - they are basically the Big 10 in football in basketball terms with the exception those 2 teams are actually nationally relevant.   But the rest of the conf is junk.  Horford should have a field day down there in all games but the 2 vs UK if tonight is any indication.

Here are some Detroit players of note-

Juwan Howard, Jr.

Carlton Brundidge

I completely forgot about Brundidge until just now. Crazy. That's gonna be awkward.

Seems like a better fit for Horford in Florida.

Surprised Miami got back, but Florida doesn't strike me as good as their ranking coming into the year, so this is an "upset" but not crazy.

A bit OT, but just noticed that Arizona State beat Bethune-Cookman (there's one I've never heard of) by a score of 49-39.

I'm not even sure I can remember another D1 basketball game that had so few combined points. Must have been a real sloppy 40 minutes, especially seeing as both teams had more turnovers than field goals. Yeesh.

Guess I'm having some memory lapses. That's atrocious. You could probably expect higher scoring games in your average middle school league.

Looks like Northern Illinois has truly set the bar for complete shittiness, though. Last year they lost to Eastern 25-42, while during the first half they made just 1 FG and literally only scored 4 points.
