OT: Miami AD (YTM) resigning to accept AD position at Nebraska

This is the most interesting part:

And now, the Hurricanes have something else to deal with. Eichorst was believed to be working closely with the NCAA during the joint inquiry into the athletic department, so his departure comes at a difficult time for the department — and the university, which is already dealing with a number of issues unrelated to the investigation, such as dwindling football attendance and major financial problems involving its highly touted medical school.

Sounds like Eichorst caught wind of the sanctions that Miami is facing and decided to get the hell out of Dodge...

I don't really follow AD careers and such, but does anybody else find it odd that Neb would even want the guy? Was he around when all that stuff was going down that Yahoo broke? Also it's not like their major teams have been powers lately. And attendance...yesh. Caveats about distance to stadium and all, but still not good.

I think that, with this resignation, Miami will be looking for its third AD in about 4 years, so on top of everything else like the multi-year deal with Sun Life Stadium that they will likely take a bath on if they can't get bums in seats and the Shapiro scandal, they can't get anyone who really wants to take that department on, which sadly is totally understandable. As far as I know, Eichorst had gone virtually media silent after a press conference late last year, which didn't seem like a good sign, and I don't think I blame him for wanting to be at a comparatively mundane Nebraska.

Shawn Eichorst, who is in his second year in Coral Gables, was named the University of Miami's 12th Director of Athletics on April 12, 2011. Eichorst arrived at Miami after serving from 2009-11 as the Deputy AD at the University of Wisconsin, where his responsibilities under Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez included serving as the department's Chief Operating Officer and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the highly successful athletics program. Eichorst resigned on Oct. 4, 2012.

Or maybe he was the deputy AD at Wisconsin and wants to move back to the Big Ten for a more stable program in a more stable conference.

I wonder what kind of precident Penn State set, as far as penalties. I don't think there's any way they can give Miami (or anyone else) the death penalty at this point, but Miami should get something similar to Penn State, IMO.

It seems like a midwest guy just wants to get back to that area. Have you been to Miami? I wouldn't want to live in that area if I'm from Wisconsin. The culture is way different!

There are nice towns nearby, like Hollywood. I stayed there for work last winter for 3 months. It was wonderful. But the other 9 months of the year you have sweltering heat, giant bugs, humidity, hurricanes, crime. Miami isn't the dream of Florida that you think about like Tampa or Orlando.

I'd say that's putting it lightly. I'm certain that Miami is probably behind UCF, USF, and several Florida FCS schools in actual attendance. I think that's two straight games where the attendance did not look to be more than 5,000-10,000

Probably a smart move for the guy. Heading to a quality athletic program in Nebraska, and away from the ensuing shitstorm that will happen to Miami in the near-future.

To be honest, this somewhat surprises me, though. I thought Nebraska would look within its own family first (like a Tom Osborne hand-picked successor) before branching out.

The situation with their medical school is mind-boggling, and adding that to the clusterf*ck with Nevin Shapiro—who she was photographed taking a check from with a big shit-eating grin on her mug—and now the departure of Eichorst, she's going to be the fall guy.

Most people outside Nebraska know Osborne strictly for his coaching career, and view his AD stint as a caretaker role to close out his career.

Besides helping guide Nebraska into the Big Ten, he fired and hired  men's football, basketball, and baseball coaches, started or initiated a new basketball practice facility and state of the art downtown arena, new student-life and strength complexes inside Memorial Stadium, and expansion of Memorial Stadium capacity to 92,000.

Aside from taking over a high profile football program, tough act to follow for Eichorst.
