OT: MHSAA High School Football Playoff Challenge

Submitted by wresler120 on

I have put together a bracket challenge for all 8 Divisions of the MHSAA Football playoff tournament. I figured there are quite a few people on here who "somewhat" follow high school football, and I thought this would be a pretty cool bracket challenge we could compete against each other in. Just go through each division and pick your winner for each round. If anything else .. you can at least follow along throughout the high school tournament, as I will update the brackets round by round at the end of each game.

Also, here is a link to all of the match ups, and each teams overall schedules and records.

That is one of the coolest things I have heard of, the only problem is I am from Ohio so yours is pretty much not my to my knowledge. But maybe I can do an Ohio high school playoff bracket myself. But just wanted to give props for your idea even if I do not know anything about it.

I did this last year in your bracket pool...I was the only one to accurately pick all of the first round games in D1, I ended up finishing one game off the leader.

Is Michigan like Ohio were the catholic schools recruit and dominate the playoffs every year? I have been screaming for a seperate playoff for catholic or prochcial schools for years, they just have  a huge and unfair advantage year after year?

Of course private school teams Like Detroit CC, Monroe St. Mary's CC and OL St. Mary's are some of the top teams in the state (for their division) year in and year out. But, then again public schools like Rockford, Lowell, and East Grand Rapids are as well. Anytime a team is notoriously deep in the playoffs year after year, everyone from the opposite schools start to say they recruit, whether they are private or public schools.

It is not in Ohio two years ago of our 6 divisions they won 5 of the divisions. St Eds, St Ignaisis, Moeler, well hell I could name probably 50 top teams so I know you get the idea. I mean local schools do well like Massilion, Mckinley, ect. But they win at least 70 percent of all titles in 6 divisions in a ten year span I would bet.

As someone who played at a public school, and against a lot of Catholic schools in hockey recruiting happens... BUT If you are a good player especially in football and want to get to the next level, you know the good football programs in your area.  So schools don't really have to "recruit" players persay because the players want to go there so they get noticed on a bigger stage.  It's a cycle, good program brings in top players from the area, good players create lasting programs, and it goes hand in hand.

Oh the recruit in Ohio no if ands or buts. My brother was recruited in Baseball now recruited I mean paid tuition and what not since they cost like 2 grand a semester out here. Not cars and actually money just take all the iner city poorer kids and send em to expensive schools like Lebron James he was suppost to go to Akron North horrible teams at every sport, but moves to Saint Vincent Saint Marrys which cost and arm and a leg to go to. So that is how Ohio rolls

The "school of choice" concept has made a difference too. you've got public school kids floating around ormoving into district just to play sports. I guess this has probably gone forever.

which ones have the best shot of winning a state title? I know Godin, Morris have legit teams plus I saw some teams only played 8 games then playoffs is that right? Ohio every team plays 10 then playoffs. I swear I saw some Michigan teams already lost maybe Cass Tech?

Rockford has improved since their opening loss against Lowell, so I would say they have a shot. Morris' team (the name escapes me) has a solid team, as well. I honestly haven't payed much attention to high school football this year, so I'm not sure who the favorites are but Rockford is usually up there.

Surprisng to see Mason up there. Just a few years ago when I was in high school they were pretty bad. Nice to see two CAAC Red division teams up there in St Johns and Mason though.

Thanks for making this. My friend and I were trying to figure out if our respective high schools could meet up in the state tournament and I figured out we could meet in the quarterfinals. Also obliged to say Let's Go Knights!!

Second year in a row that the GP South Blue Devils have made the playoffs.  It wouldn't surprise me if that's a first.  Gonna be hard to top last year's miracle run though.  Go South!

Grand Rapids Christian is my pick to win the D3 state championship. And all of you should come to Ford Field to check out Soph WR Drake Harris. Shane Morris and Him could make a nice combination in 3-4 years at Michigan.

Oh what the hell, my picks from the bracket even though I don't know anything really:

D1: Utica Eisenhower

D2: Farmington Hills Harrison

D3: Mount Pleasant

D4: Marine City

D5: Millington

D6: Grass Lake

D7: Saginaw Nouvel

D8: Mendon

Don't know squat about squat, but at least I'm not stupid enough to pick against Harrison.
