OT: MHSAA D-1 Football Playoffs

Submitted by HartAttack20 on

By the looks of the bracket, the upcoming D-1 football playoff games are going to be big matchups. Detroit Southeastern squares off against Sterling Heights Stevenson, and Macomb Dakota plays Clarkston for the chance to play the winner of that game. On the top of the bracket, Detroit Cath. Central plays Canton in a big game, and they play the winner of Rockford and Holt. On a side note: Is Detroit Southeastern the school that Gholston goes to? This looks like one of the tougher years as of late. The school I go to, Rockford, is going to have a tough time getting another title this year. We are undefeated, but we've been extremely lucky so far. Anybody from any of the other HS areas know how good some of the other teams are?

Here's the bracket: http://www.mhsaa.com/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=h0t4R4TeS1k%3d&tabid=110

D1 is a much better division this year than last. IMO I thought that D2 was much tougher last year than D1 and Rockford took advantage of that (don't get me wrong, I thought Rockford was very good last year). That said I still think west michigan football is much better than east michigan football so I think Rockford has a great chance to repeat. Catholic Central is tough but I'm not sold on Canton or Stevenson (or any other east side team).

Yeah William Ghoalston goes to Southeastern... man among boys.

best of luck to all teams still playing and to get this far, they have done something right.

Western Michigan is much more skilled in football most of the time. The OK Red Conference is probably the best in the state. Rockford and Holt face off almost every year, so it's nothing we haven't seen before. I'm not sure if Rockford has the firepower offensively to win it this year, but our defense is pretty solid. If Munger decides to run the Wishbone or option the rest of the playoffs I think we have a better chance.

Maybe USC-UCLA, Grandville used to have great games with Rockford but they fell off a bit lately. I don't know about you, but Grandville's biggest rival is Rockford. Maybe a MSU-UM thing where "ooh we want to beat you so bad, ooh" and "meh" are the modes of thought. Just asking if rockford feels similar.

Fair enough. Honestly that game was everything a few years back. Grandville's talent has really hit a wall after Hawken (now MSU's starting fullback) left. Pity, we used to compete year in and year out. Now in the OK-Red we lose to the teams we are supposed to lose to, and do pretty well otherwise.

All I know is holy shit GP South made the playoffs for the first time in forever. That is awesome.

And then we got last year's championship game loser in the first round and got shut out. Argh. My dad's a DLS grad, I hope he didn't notice.

Our team has had multiple 4th quarter comebacks this year after playing pretty poor offense most of the game. Now, the fourth quarter comebacks thing is great, and it shows a lot about the team. At the same time, however, it can be slightly concerning that we can't score as well in the first half of some games. In the end we can definitely win the title, but it won't be easy.

BTW... Has Canton ever won a state title? I remember we beat them in '05, but wasn't sure if they had won it before that.

I go to CC. Our D is sick. We've only let up 30 points in 11 games. Stevenson and White didn't score, and Bolden (PSU commit) and St. Mary's didn't score a single point either time they played us.
