OT- MGoBloggers move the needle in Ohio license plate slogan campaign

So I was online reading up on a man who got run over at an intersection a half mile from my old stomping grounds, and I noticed a link regarding the results of the "Choose our license plate slogan" campaign Ohio put on recently. Here's some highlights of the article:

But some were downright mean and surely won't make the final cut, such as "Worst State Ever," "O-Lie-O" and 81 votes for phrases containing the word "sucks." You get the picture.

and...

And then there is Ohio State. There were more than 2,000 votes for slogans mentioning the university, including "The Ohio State University," "Go Bucks," and "OH-IO," the chant often associated with the Columbus school. But about half of the OSU-related suggestions referenced the school's embarrassing recent NCAA scandal, including "Free tattoos." Terrelle Pryor, the former OSU quarterback who left the school in 2010 amid scandal, pulled in nearly 800 votes from fans or haters, many of whom cannot spell his first name -- there were seven different variations. And then there was Pryor's coach, Jim Tressel, who was booted from the school and subsequently punished by the NCAA over the same issue. Tressel received only 16 votes, far fewer than the football program's most popular coach ever, Woody Hayes, who reeled in 656 votes. Even Hayes' arch-nemesis, Bo Schembechler, former coach of That School Up North, got 225 votes. Go figure.

Great job everyone. Heres the link if anyone wishes to read further (athough theres really not much reason)

Being back in Ohio now, the slogan means little to me. What I would like to see, though it will probably never happen, is allowing Ohio residents to purchase a license plate with the block M on it. They allow you to purchase license plates with various images support Ohio colleges (Ohio and Cincinnati are the most common).

Texas does it per this article - surprised that sparty would be getting plates before Michigan, though.  Found an article at Purdue that lists what states they have plates and which states have said no.  Looks like Maryland has U of M plates - anyone know of other states out there?  I won't hold my breath for Ohio plates (plus, their special plate prices are way too high).

In Tennessee you can get any school you want...as a matter of fact each county apparently gets plates of the teams that were ordered the year before because every year I ask if they have a Michigan one. I always get the same reponse, I know we have a Michigan St. one to which I respond not even close to the same thing. I guess my magnets, antenna topper and window stickers will have to suffice. Special plate prices are really high here too, which is the reason I haven't ordered one.

In Illinois, you can request a specialty license plate and have it produced if the state receives at least 1500 orders.  For out-of-state colleges, the additional restrictions are that the school must have at least 10,000 alumni living in the state and that the school must be private.  $25 of the license plate fee goes to scholarships for Illinois students to that school.  Hence, the only out-of-state specialty plate in Illinois is for notre dame.

Don't know what the restrictions are for Ohio, but if it is allowed and enough people purchase it, a U-M license plate could provide some benefits to Ohio residents who want to pursue an education at "that school up north."

I prefer the classic 1990s plates: The "Heart of it All!" edition. The bicentennial plates were awful and they can't go away soon enough. The ones that combined city and countryside with a big ol' red barn and a distant skyline were slightly better.

I feel for those poor people in Indiana stuck with those "In GOD we trust" plates. Seems a little one-size-fits-all for my spiritual tastes.
