OT: MGoBlog World Cup bracket pool

Submitted by goblueram on

Hey folks, seems like there is a good amount of World Cup interest here on the blog, so I figured we could have some fun making picks.

I'm not really a soccer guy myself, but it's fun watching the national tournaments.  I've always rooted for France, adopted Uruguay last time, and of course will cheer on the red, white, and blue.  So Allez les Bleus, <insert whatever Uruguayans say>, and Go USA!

Who's your team?

“Nothing can help me care about soccer. Oh, ‘it’s the most popular sport in the world.’ Probably because it’s cheap to play. It costs a ball. Once every four years, America pretends to care about it. And yes, I call it ‘soccer.’ Don’t correct me because I don’t care what they call it in other lands”

I don't understand people like you two. You say you don't care but you care enough to respond.

The fact is that soccer fans don't care that you and a terribly untalented comedian don't like the sport. So please stop responding to these threads.

Come on..Forlan was so sweet for Uruguay last time!  That was the main reason.  Plus Suarez had that handball, which was the only time I saw desperation in soccer that I could relate to hockey...

As far as France goes, Zidane and Henry made me a fan back in the day.

Do I Believe That We Can Win?  Like most of the commentators and prognosticators, I suspect that the USA remains a long shot to advance to the knockout round, but I'm hoping that the USMNT plays well and that they can avoid any injuries.  After last night's primary election in Virginia's 7th Congressional District, maybe it's a good week to give up following the recommendations and predictions of those football/soccer prognosticators.

I have no particular rooting interest in any other nation competing in the World Cup.  I just root for the players from the team I root for in the Premiership to play well and avoid injury. Before the rosters were trimmed to 23 players, there was an article listing all the players from the Premiership who were on the 30-man rosters for the teams in the World Cup.

I'd also like to see a World Cup played without any on-the-pitch controversies, and (especially considering what has been going on in Brazil) without any violence and chaos in the streets and in the stands.  FIFA has more than enough to worry about.

This is the greatest event in sports, and I cannot wait for it to kick off!!! Just wish USA had some more promise. I am first generation German american though...so my backup plan isnt looking too shabby! Perfect way to sum up WC viewed by Americans... Kasey Keller says Euros say to him, “(Americans) invent a sport, you’re the only one who plays it, and you call yourselves world champions.""

Anyone else find this a bit pretentious?
It's almost as if they'd be ok with losing as long as they look good.
I think Brazil is to soccer as Canada is to hockey. Many Canadians bitched in the Olympics that we didn't look good but most of us were content to just win baby!
