OT: MGoBlog World Cup bracket pool - group stage update

Submitted by goblueram on

After an exciting group stage, the World Cup is now into the knockound round/sweet sixteen.  For the 168 of us (nice!) who entered the bracket challenge on ESPN, here is an update to the standings.

Group link: MGoBlog group

Top 10-ish:

Tied for first are "Sharath3947" and "Bowl picks right?".  Assuming these aren't your MGoBlog usernames, who made the top 10?

P.S. In my original post starting the pool I mentioned that I root USA, France, Uruguay.  Somehow, all three are still alive in the tourney, so I'm lovin it!

but actually I respect how he kept Uruguay alive with that handball in 2010.  Kind of the equivalent of pushing the receiver down in the end zone when he's got you beat and there's almost no time left. Take the flag and hope you stop them on the ensuing play.

Those of you who know soccer well (I do not), is that really considered an ethical breach or was it the kind of thing that if Suarez had been on your team and NOT stuck his hand out, you would be ticked off??

One of the young guys in the warehouse got 28 of 32 possible points in the group phase, not only picking 14 of the 16 teams in the knockout round but picking them in their proper slots.  He is one of some 80 people out of more than 1.2 million brackets currently tied for 4th place.

Unfortunately he picked England to win it all.

So...there is still hope for the rest of us.
