OT - MGOBLOG Viewing

Submitted by KC Wolve on

I have wondered this for a while, but it was never a big deal as the topics I usually read are on the first page, but with all of the BCS threads I want to see older topics that aren't on the first page.  When I click next or page 2, I don't get the next round of topics.  Am I missing something?

Thanks

Mgoblog is soooo OT. But yes, I have the same problem. I have exchanged a series of emails with Brian and only on the 23rd email did he voice concern about the sites functionality. But in the end everybody on campus was using it. "Mgoblog me" was the common expression after two weeks. And Brian was the biggest thing on a campus that included 19 Nobel laureates, 15 Pulitzer prize winners, 2 future Olympians and a movie star.

You could have at least taken the Harvard-ness out of that and customized it to Michigan!

26 Rhodes scholars, 7 Nobel Prize winners, 116 Olympis Medalists, 18 Pulitzer Prize winners (suck on that Harvard). Then you can google (what up Larry Page) the rest to find out about our colonization of space (space, bitches. space).

The same problem pops up in some other parts of the site, too, its weird. Like Michigan Shirt said, the way to get around it is to open the second page in a new tab.

Yeah I agree this is annoying.   You can just add the page variable to the URL to access other pages.  They are numbered starting at 0, so

http://www.mgoblog.com?page=1

will get you to the second page.

The links in the page boxes are actually correct, but there is some javascript that interferes with their functioning.

Yes, this is a javascript error for IE. This works fine in Firefox, which is probably why Brian does not care. Still pretty annoying as there is a lot of IE users on this blog and most of them cannot view more than the first page worth of board topics.

...almost every time, but when I view with Explorer it NEVER happens.  Yeah, I know, who on earth uses Internet Explorer anymore?  Well, this guy, that's who (Long story longer, it is a work thing, and certain work sites are not fully finctional with other browsers, but are with IE).

This started happening for me on game days so I figured it was something to do with the increased traffic, but now it is happening every time I visit the site. I'm sure Brian will fix it in the offseason, hopefully along with bringing back true pos and neg-banging.

I have the iPhone app for mgoblog, and when I scroll down on a topic with a bunch of replies I can't get to the next page.  For example if a topic has 60 replies I can see 50 and nothing after that.  Is anyone else having that problem?

A CMS, notable for being open source and... uhm, nothing else. Designed to be totally useless right after installation, unless the user modifies it into something (somewhat) usable. Seriously, it was designed not to do anything at all when installed. The user is the one who must try and make it usable by adding functions, modules and that kind of stuff, all by himself,
And even after that, your site will be fugly as hell, with totally generic content blocks (all drupal sites look like the spread firefox site, it uses drupal too), a horrible forum with too little options, plus your site will crawl like it's has an anchor tied on it's right leg.
The only reason people will use drupal is either because some open source junkie told them it's cool and awesome (wrong), or because their boss will fire them if they don't.

edit: not trying to hate on the site design or anything, just pointing out that pretty much all performance problems that relate to MGoBlog are due to Drupal.
