OT - MGoBlog appreciation (Ross application help)
A couple of months ago, I came to MGoBlog when I was struggling with my Ross BBA application (here's the thread). I found out today that I was accepted and I don't think I could have done it without the blog's help. I just wanted to say thanks to all of the users who helped; this blog truly has had an impact on my life regardless of the sports aspect. I will forever appreciate everyone who gave me their advice. Thanks again and go blue!

From one BBA to another: congratulations. Just know, it isn't all that its cracked up to be.
Do your best while you're there!
Congratulations. You can email us a beer.
Nobody can ever say that we come here to MGoBlog strictly to waste time. Once in a while, we provide valuable services to advance the community as well. In all seriousness though, we have a great group and a diverse one that has provided useful advice on many things.
Congratulations and good luck, RogueRage!
So I'm having this problem with my dog's anal glands...

I thought I'd share with you beforehand that Ross isn't all rainbows and sunshine. It's competitive as hell and you're gonna meet some big egos. As a class of 2017 BBA, my advice to you is to go in with an open mind. Try to meet people, join clubs, talk to your professors, and get ahead with all the academic/career resources. The first semester in Ross was kind of a weird point in my academic career, and the same went for my friends too. You'll see what I mean when you're there.
Hopefully they change the structure of BA 200 because that class literally made me want to throw up. However, the awesomeness of TO 301 made up for it I think.
Well that's my two cents. Welcome to Ross and good luck!!
Class of 2017, huh? I was a class of 2011 BBA and graduation still seems like yesterday at times...
Anyway, congratulations to the OP. As others have said, it's not all rosy in the Bschool. Specifically, there's a lot of arrogance and a lot of tools in there who think that somehow Ross is better than the rest of Michigan. I've always loved the school as a whole (and MGoBlog and football helps there, of course) so I didn't have that mentatliy, but watch out for falling into that trap.
Classes shouldn't be too tough (although Year 1 is a little more challenging) due to the massive grade-inflation. You should definitely keep your GPA in the 3.8 range and above for jobs, which shouldn't be that hard with strategic class selection if you don't want to work that hard.
Make sure you join and actively lead / participate in clubs in the career fields you are interested in. I didn't do anything there, which looks terrible haha.
Networking is absolutely crucial to getting jobs, so start early and learn how to do it right (e.g., without being annoying). Learn from older classmates who were successful at getting good jobs. I was always terrible at networking and though I ended up in pretty good spots, it would have helped a lot more if I knew what I was doing.
Anwyay, that's my unsolicited advice which is hopefully helpful for a freshly-minted BBA. Unlike the other schools (which are and should be focused on more theoretical academic knowledge, say philosophy or something), the purpose of Bschool is to get you a job. Use the school for its intended purpose without getting sucked in to a dbag mentality and you'll do well.
