OT: MGo Meet Up at the Big 10K

Submitted by Doc Brown on

Hi everyone, I will be running in the 10k at the Big 10K in Chicago next weekend. I was wondering if any other posters on the board are also running as well. Perhaps we could meet up at the post race tailgate.

Sad I can't do it this year, but with some better planning I will be there next year to ensure a top 10 representation for us.

Sorry I can't join you Doc.  I did the Tough Mudder a few weeks ago and had a blast.  Miles 11 and 12 were pretty tough on the calves though.  In spite of my pre-event electrolyte loading they kept cramping.  The good news is that my muscles were so tired by that point that the cramps weren't severe.  It just felt like my calves kept falling out of place.

Enjoy!

Yeah, not sure how I dodged what became known as the 21st obstacle but I had no flu symptoms.  I hobbled around for a couple of days as my legs informed me I had no business pushing them that far.

It's funny because I commented as we were waiting in line for one of the water obstacles, "I wonder if they added any chlorine to the water," and got some hearty chuckles from my fellow mudders that were within earshot.  We all knew that common sense thoughts concerning hygiene was somewhat antithetical to the spirit of Tough Mudder,  Yet 16,000 dirty sweating athletes sharing numerous relatively small pools of muddy water in series was a prescription for some type of pathogenic outbreak.

It could have been much worse.  Other obstacle course / mud runs have overwhelmed local emergency rooms when organizers tried to push the envelope of toughness and included challenges that were truly hazardous.

Anyway, I completed it, and I survived.

Ah, sorry prof - would love to go run with you but I can't make it out there.  I did the Madison to Chicago Ragnar Relay in June, and I think I'm still recovering from the devestation I did on my legs!  My team was down a man, so my buddy & I ended up covering his miles in addition to our own, coming in just north of 30 miles apiece.  I had never run farther than 10 miles in my life, so ... it was an adventure!  But I managed.  Good luck out there, have fun.

I'll be there.  Was hoping for a PB in this race since Chicago is so flat but an injury derailed me the last two months.  I'll struggle through it.

Look for the tall, old man huffing and puffing his way to the finish.

I'm not sure I'm gonna wear that shirt they gave us though.  It IS a nice shirt but if the temperature is over 65 degrees I'd probably overheat in that thing.
