I've seen Dio twice (both times with Yngwie Malmsteen opening for him) and he was so good live.  His love and passion for his music, and more importantly, his fans, was sp palpable when he was onstage.

We're a ship without a storm
The cold without the warm
Light inside the darkness that it needs, yeah

We're a laugh without a tear
The hope without the fear
We are coming - home

RIP RJD

If you flip the Dio logo (the roman script) upside down, it very clearly spells DEVIL! Or at least that's what my sunday school teacher so eagerly pointed out in 1985. Someone really should have told him that half of his audience was thinking, "That. Is. AWESOME!"

If you have ever watched Metal: A Headbanger's Journey, a documentary that came out a few years back, it has an interview with Dio where he explains the devil horns phenomenon. He says that back when he was a kid, his Grandmother used to do that gesture to people they passed by on the street, as a superstition of warding off demons. He started using it in concerts, and it caught on.

The very last LP that I purchased new in a store was The Last In Line. I would put him second only to Rob Halford as Best Metal Vocalist (not by much).

Truly an epic singer.

Does anyone else feel older when they her that a rock star that they grew up with passed away?  I do.  First it was Kevin Dubrow of Quiet Riot, now Dio.  I certainly hope that he at some point in his life came to believe in Jesus Christ, whom I believe is the Savior of the world.

When it's their time, it's their time, howeva, I'm much better with RJD passing away now that I'm an old man in contrast to say, cratering a brick wall in a Mazaradi after having snorted half of Colombia as young rock stars are inclined to do.

I saw this yesterday, then a retraction was issued and his wife or manager denied it.  Later in the day I read it again, without the denial.

Very powerful voice in a very small frame.  At 67, he was still rocking?  I hope that I'm able to be that active when I'm old(er).

aired a special tonight "Dedicated to Dio." I was wondering if anyone caught it, it was an excellent tribute to a truly gifted musician and more importantly, a great person. Can't say I had a dry eye the whole time I watched it.

On a disturbing front, a friend showed me this article about some scumbags who plan to protest and picket at Dio's funeral. These people are some of the lowest lifeforms on Earth. I have nothing else to say other than I'm sickened by these creatures.
