Mike Jones
December 6th, 2017 at 10:14 PM ^
DC for Georgia. Or is it Bama? Either way, they got a good candidate - one of the better coordinators waiting his turn. To be honest, I didn't think they'd get anyone of that calibre, even though he has no HC experience.
December 7th, 2017 at 10:37 AM ^
I think the pendulum just swung back to the SEC East as the tougher division
December 7th, 2017 at 12:17 PM ^
It's a little unusual for schools at Tennessee's level to hire someone with no head coaching experience.Does he really look like a better hire than Butch Jones did at the time? I wouldn't say that.
December 7th, 2017 at 1:14 PM ^
I would say a national championship winning coordinator is a better bet than an up and comer. Mark Richt, Bob Stoops, Kirby Smart, Jimbo Fisher, Phil Fulmer, and even Lloyd Carr all had no head coaching experience.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:15 PM ^
Bama has been bringing in d stud after d stud the last few days. Amazing how that happens!
December 6th, 2017 at 10:17 PM ^
And they are still pumping guys into the NFL.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:36 PM ^
Or Tutors who Tackle tasks so players can skip class.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:49 PM ^
Bama does fine without breaking the bank. It's the Ole Misses of the world that are egregious offenders.
December 7th, 2017 at 12:31 AM ^
Yeah, NOW. Remember before Saban? They were terrible. He built the empire on cash (and cars), and just because it can now run itself doesn't mean he doesn't keep the competitive edge.
December 7th, 2017 at 1:59 AM ^
I don't buy this idea. I actually think Saban is and has been clean.
December 7th, 2017 at 6:40 AM ^
Cue BamaCars.jpeg
December 7th, 2017 at 8:55 AM ^
Tell that to all his "injured" players who are forced to transfer to SouthWest Eastern Middle Alabama Community College because a younger 5-Star just took their scholarship.
December 7th, 2017 at 10:33 AM ^
Nevermind the fact that nobody in the history of college football has recruited like Alabama. Where the 5 star back ups have 5 star back ups. It must be because Tuscaloosa is such a nice place......
December 7th, 2017 at 11:19 AM ^
He was dirty the first 3 years and then went pretty much clean after. Now 'Bama and Saban just have to offer whoever they want to get them.
December 7th, 2017 at 11:38 AM ^
Have you seen the cars of his players? The man owns a share in several car dealerships and his stud players all have cars that range from 80-150k. Nit to mention there has been ole Miss type social media type situations where players post picks with them holding like 10k grand.
There is a reason he has the number one recruiting class annually. And it is not just because he is putting guys in the league.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:16 PM ^
Good hire probably.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:16 PM ^
This guy can recruit his a$$ off
December 6th, 2017 at 10:18 PM ^
In the $EC recruit$ well if they want to and aren't galactically ignorant about it like Ole Mi$$
December 7th, 2017 at 7:56 AM ^
Right? I still can't believe how bad Ole Miss was at it!! I've never paid players to play football, but even I know that you shouldn't have your Director of Football Operations make the payments!
Good Gawd...
December 6th, 2017 at 10:16 PM ^
Sounds like a surprisingly good hire.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:17 PM ^
terrific hire for Tennessee. The Nick Saban coaching tree will now literally be half of the SEC East, and could've been more had McEllwain not been fired... Talk about trying to replicate Alabama. (I know Pruitt isn't technically a Saban-ite because he had a long track record before Saban)
December 6th, 2017 at 10:39 PM ^
Most of his college coaching career has been at Bama.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:17 PM ^
Hopefully some tomfoolery goes down, preventing this otherwise successful hire. I need more Tennessee hi jinx.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:54 PM ^
Pruitt may not be head coach material; we probably won't find out for a couple of years.
December 7th, 2017 at 12:10 AM ^
I'm waiting for Lane Kiffin to tweet his thoughts/troll job.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:17 PM ^
Assuming Tee Martin is OC?
(still shocked no one contacted him)
December 6th, 2017 at 10:52 PM ^
He was contacted.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:17 PM ^
ASU officially loses the 2017 coaching carousel.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:23 PM ^
Did Oregon hire someone yet? Whomever they hire I'm sure it'll be better than ~Herm
Whatever happened to ~Herm?
December 6th, 2017 at 10:25 PM ^
Chad Morris didn't wait around for that one and took the Arkansas job. His offensive philosophy fits well with what Oregon has been for awhile and it's not the SEC west
December 6th, 2017 at 10:31 PM ^
Almost all of Morris' connections are in Texas so it's probably a proximity thing.
I thought he would have been a slam dunk hire for Texas Tech had they fired Kingsbury.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:32 PM ^
Probably would’ve been A&M’s backup option if they didn’t get Jimbo.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:36 PM ^
Forgot about where he was from and coached. Makes sense then.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:37 PM ^
Oregon is still open I believe.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:51 PM ^
If Sumlin goes there, then everything will have turned out fairly well for everyone except ASU, it seems.
December 7th, 2017 at 2:04 AM ^
Not quite, seeing as how Oregon could have had Chip Kelly back if Taggart had left two weeks ago instead of now.
December 7th, 2017 at 9:20 AM ^
That is an interesting thought. Are we sure Chip would have wanted to go back to Oregon? Part of me thinks yes, simply because of comfort, but another part of me thinks he probably wants to showcase that he can be successful somewhere other than Eugene.
December 10th, 2017 at 8:13 PM ^
did Oregon want him back? its easy to say go back, but they would need to want to have him back. he left them once. who's to say he wouldn't do it again. outside of Petrino, has this actually happened at a big time school?
December 7th, 2017 at 12:26 PM ^
He's coming off pretty average years at A&M. That was the ideal place for him to succeed. He came in with a lot of fanfare and started with a great season. He was an assistant there before and has deep ties in Texas and Oklahoma.
Stick him in Oregon with no ties to the area, litlle experience recruiting the PAC-12 footprint and no buzz to help in recruiting. How can anyone expect that to go better?
December 6th, 2017 at 11:27 PM ^
not yet, but it just opened up a few days ago. the AD was pretty pissed off and caught off guard from the video interview I watched.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:19 PM ^
Man, Tennessee fucked everything up, and yet somehow stumbled onto a really solid candidate. Was really hoping for more misery lol
December 6th, 2017 at 11:57 PM ^
Michigan stumbled upon Rich Rod who was universally considered to be a HR candidate at the time.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:20 PM ^
This isn't a good hire. You can put almost anyone as DC/OC on Bama and they will be ok. Do not expect them to be about anything.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:25 PM ^
Kirby Smart seems to be working out okay for Georgia.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:27 PM ^
I said almost anyone. Besides, Kirby had been with Bama for quite some time.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:32 PM ^
Sure. But Pruitt also has a solid track record as a DC at Georgia and FSU, and is a big-time recruiter. If you're going to hire a guy whose never been a head coach, this is about as good as it gets (though still a reletively big risk for a blue blood like Tennessee).
December 7th, 2017 at 12:46 AM ^
Pruitt also has a reputation for being an ass. It’s been one of the things holding his career back.
Everyone thinks this is a great hire. I bet it goes as well as Tim Brewster at Minnesota with a few more awkward moments. So kind of like hiring Brewster and getting Tim Beckman and Lane Kiffin thrown in for free.
December 7th, 2017 at 8:00 AM ^
Haa!!! That sounds like a lot of fun to watch from the sidelines!!
